Magpie having a nap in the sun.

First time I have seen this. He slept for almost 20 minutes.
I broke the video up into two parts.
This is the second section.
Noisy Miner comes along to check out the sleeping Magpie.
Noisy Miner chick being fed by a parent.
Magpie wakes up, has a drink, gathers some food to take back to the chicks in the nest.

I swear I heard it snoring.

Fantastic creatures.

@Reeena I love them. Such characters. 🙂

Fast forwarded to the noisy chicks then played the rest. I'm wondering if you know what kind of brown food the magpie seemed to be gathering? Is it something g you left out for it?
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Mindful I give them some mince each morning and evening.
The powers that be say not to feed them mince, but my friend has been doing it for decades and there have always been healthy chicks growing into healthy adult birds.

@Gusman no wonder he/she looks like she is living in retirement! Long naps, taking it easy! I'm surprised she's not playing bingo.

That's kinda strange behavior, no? It's a dangerous place to be nodding out like that. Maybe it's drunk on pyracantha berries?
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Jayciedubb Apparently not strange behavior.
I have been told Magpies also lay on their back, wings spread in full sun. Good to get rid of parasites by heating up the parasites, forcing them to the surface, thus allowing easier access by the bird's beak.

Seems more like a territory dispute than just napping by just this video. Yet I'm no expert on birds in general.

Yet notice the right wing, slightly fluttering occasionally, when the eyes are closed. Not easily picked up because it's the right wing. Not the fully visible left wing.

I do believe some birds communicate with their feather movements. Yet I have no idea if magpies are one of them.

AI is suggesting tolerance of the " Noisy Miner chick", when I gave it this description. Not exactly a territorial dispute. More a "ok I see you, and you can pass by, yet I'm still watching you".

Which sort of makes sense because it waited so long to pick up that piece of food.
