Spooky stories

One of my favorite things is to listen/ read people's supposedly true spooky/supernatural stories. So I would love to hear yalls!

When I was a kid I was working part time in a toy store. The buliding had once been a movie theater, and before that a stage theatre.

The ladies room, which had been a dressing room when it was a stage theater, was supposedly haunted by the ghost of a woman. There were a lot of stories and some strange occurences and sightings.

I'm in there one day before opening because the owner asked to put up a shelf. I did, and as I finished I started washing my hands up in the sink. I go to turn off the faucet and it won't budge. It turned on as easily as it should, but now it was like it was frozen.

I'm kneeling on the sink trying with all my strength in both hands to close it and it doesn't move at all. The sink is backing up and overflowing, water is pouring over the floor.

I'm just about to run out and yell for some help....when the faucet just shuts off all by itself. Right before my eyes it turned off all by itself.

@robingoodfellow Must have been really spooky at the time, though. Do you think it could have been a plumbing issue?
@Donotfolowme I'm no plumbing expert, I've wondered that myself over the years. It didn't happen again.
Another weird thing about that place I just remembered: whoever had the job of vacuuming the floor at the end of the day would often find movie ticket stubs on the floor. Nobody could figure out where they were coming from.

@robingoodfellow Definitely weird and stranger things happening, though nothing harmful, I guess.

I want to say this happened about 25 years ago. My friend Brian called me up, told me he was working graveyard shift at this boring construction site, and he wondered if I wanted to hang out. We'd done this before another job sites where he worked. Just two grown adults playing hide and seek or whatever to pass the time.

This one was a little different. See, they were building a church on the grounds of an existing house, but what Brian didn't tell me was that the former owner of the house didn't want a church on the property. Former owner didn't get a vote, however, because the former owner was deceased.

The first thing Brian did was took me on a tour of the old house that they were planning to demolish, as that was where security had set up their HQ. He told me they didn't really go to the upper floors, but he would show me around up there.

I watched as Brian took a freshly charged Maglite off the charger. He turned it on just to show that it had a full charge. Halfway up the stairs to the second floor, the Maglite flickered it and went out. No explanation. It just didn't work on the second floor.

Anyway, he showed me around. Showed me where the laundry closet was, which it was basically a laundry chute that went all the way from the attic to the basement, with a closet type enclosure on each floor to keep people from accidentally falling into the basement. I saw a suspicious looking brownish stain on the back wall.

Wasn't much else for him to show me on the second floor, as the rooms were all emptied out, but he showed me where the balcony had formerly been. The glass sliding door was still there, but no balcony. We looked out the door, and he showed me where the concrete foundations on the ground floor indicated that there had once been a balcony. You guessed it. There were suspicious brown stains on the concrete.

He showed me where the attic stairs were, but told me that none of the security crew went up there because they were told the floor was rotted. That was just as well, because something told me I had no interest in whatever was in that attic.

As we made it back down to the main floor, the Maglite turned back on. Again, no explanation. It just turned back on. He then took me down to the basement.

I've seen dark basements before. That's nothing new. But this one was insistently dark. Obviously, part of that was because there were no lights, but it just felt dark. The floor was made of concrete, and Brian showed me where the laundry chute opened out in the ceiling. Sure enough, the floor had more of those funny brown stains.

Nothing of any particular interest happened until around 3:00 a.m. I know, I know, that's always the time stuff happens in scary stories, but I swear. Brian and I were half asleep, trying to keep each other awake talking about silly things, and suddenly a bunch of dead bugs that had been lying on their backs on a dusty end table got up and started swarming around. Hadn't moved a muscle all night, just lying on their backs with their legs curled, and then suddenly they were alive. In particular, this one mosquito was really making a nuisance of itself. I waited for it to land on a wall, then slam my hand into the wall so hard it hurt. I knew that mosquito was under my hand, and so I didn't take a chance. I ground my hand back and forth against the wall so that anything under it would have been squished.

That goddamn mosquito flew away without a scratch. Flew in my face again, and by this time I was enraged. It started flying toward the basement door.

That's when I realized. This thing wanted me in the basement and Brian in the attic. (He had been hearing voices up in that attic all night.) Meaning it wanted to push him down the laundry chute in front of me.

@robingoodfellow It's fortunate that spirits of the dead can only influence people to do things if they don't catch on. I really do think the spirit of the former owner was trying to create an accident to halt construction of the church.
@LordShadowfire the former owner must have been a malignant SOB to be projecting like that.
A bad place to hang around.

@robingoodfellow They were planning to turn the existing house into a parish house for the church. I'm guessing there were more funny brown stains afterward.

I am also very interested, though I do not have any personal experiences as such, other than having a strong negative feeling at night at my uncle's haunted house in 2013.

I still listen to old creepypastas. I miss when they use to scare me, I miss being freaked out at night.

So many on Youtube
Since there is zero evidence for any "paranormal" claims, everything is anecdotal.
