The Bible says that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love and a sound mind. If you are a Christian, remember that greater is He (the Holy Spirit) that is in you, then he (Satan) that is in the world. We are not to be superstitious. I have no idea what these things are, but I would not give in to them. Pray about it and perhaps annoint your home with oil and blessings, like they did in the Passover. It is important to remember that there is nothing magical about the oil. The oil serves as a point of contact for you in your prayer. We stand in faith, like the Hebrews did, that as we pray and anoint (cleanse) our homes, the Lord will protect us from anything evil coming into our homes. Oil represents the power of the Holy Spirit and is a symbol of faith in God's ability to cleanse and make holy. It is an act of consecrating your home to Him.
There's no reason why persons should not anoint their houses with anointing oil, as long as they remember that this is only a symbolic act. If we want God's anointing, we will do His will and speak His Word. The anointing is on the Word of God. We can speak blessings on our home, for example, "Peace be to this house." The Bible says when you lie down, you will not be afraid. When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet." Don't forget, even when people are sick, we anoint them with oil, representing the Holy Spirit and His power. Luke 10:19 says "Behold, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy and to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and nothing shall injure you." This is not just man-made anointing, but Holy Spirit anointing. Aaron, in the Bible, was anointed with oil.
Anointing oil, mentioned 20 times in scripture, was used in the Old Testament for pouring on the head of the high priest and his descendants and sprinkling the Tabernacle and its furnishings, to mark them as holy and set apart to the Lord. Exodus 25:6, Leviticus 8:30 and Numbers 4:16. Olive oil was used, Exodus 29:7
Three times this is called the "holy, anointing oil", and the Jews were strictly forbidden from reproducing it for personal use, Exodus 30:32 - 33.
Exodus 30:23-24, tells us that anointing oil contains myrrh, cinnamon and other natural ingredients. The oil itself, had no supernatural power. Rather, the strictness of the guidelines for creating the oil was the test of the obedience of the Israelites and a demonstration of the absolute Holiness of God. Christians have the Spirit, who leads us into all truth and anoints us continually with His grace and comfort...
"But you have an anointing from the holy one, and all of you know the truth." 1st John 2:20
