Since legends can also be real life people whose reputations are larger than life, the community is named for John C. Fremont who mapped a lot of the west and ran for President, was the first working place for Charlie Chaplin in the silent movies, and I guess you could now add Elon Musk for his Tesla plant even if he, himself, has moved to Texas. At least as far as the tax accountants are concerned.
