What the hell is the point of a self driving car where you have to pay attention to the road at all times & be ready to take the wheel

The ideal of robots driving themselves on highways going 80 mph actually terrifies me. Because there can always be a malfunction and what if there’s nobody there to get to it fast enough to stop it. At least with a human fully controlling it, the human can prevent things faster.

@BlueVeins now that's funny but sadly, true. I know someone who can't go from known point A to known point B without programming it into her smart car. And it scares me every time I drive with her cause she argues with it all the time and takes her eyes off the road to constantly change it's settings and stuff. And she fights with the program voice as if it was a back seat passenger who is telling her how to go

@atlantic59 honestly i need to get better about phone safety behind the wheel, it's a disease
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@BlueVeins especially if you are always on the phone complaining about the drivers around you

Do they make those robot car drivers with fully functional, left hand middle fingers, for when they get into real traffic?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@atlantic59 I need two of those. One for the car, and one for the work van.

@jshm2 Well, these kids don't remember those kind of things. They just want everything to work perfectly right out of the gate. My goodness.

I reckon it's just so the "driver" can say "look kids, no hands".

Ive had self driving cars for decades it called weed, safe as *laughs*
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Well, you have to be alert. Perhaps you should just go old school and hire a chauffeur.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Hey, you know, at least it's a step in the right direction. I won't be getting one until it's a hell of a lot less flawed, and even then, I'm not sure how confident I'll be that I won't get in an accident, but we're getting there. Rome wasn't burned in a day.

@LordShadowfire I'm not entirely against the concept, just think it's kind of dumb to buy them while they're still this shitty.

@BlueVeins Darn right it is.
