Does anyone else not feel confident going out without makeup?

I can't feel pretty or sexy without makeup. Especially when I breakout, my confidence is at its low.
SW-User
I wish makeup wasn't pushed so much and that a lot of society didn't make it seem like women and makeup were made for each other.
I don't wear makeup for many reasons. I just don't even think about it. I think I am too busy to care if men are looking. lol
I'm fine with me and how I am. :)
@SW-User I totally get this. 👍🏽

I honestly don’t need it

My mom always wore makeup, and when I was in HS, it seemed like nobody went out without at least base makeup and eyeliner. It is sort of a cultural thing. Most people where I live these days don't wear much if any. I still do, and feel a bit odd doing so!

@SW-User I feel like everyone wears makeup at school whether it was high school or college. Probably cause we are discretely competing against each other all the time.
SW-User
@sweetcheekz I don't remember the competition part, maybe because I was one of the nerdy bookworm girls in HS and college. 🤓 I just remember that in HS everybody but me wore base makeup and eyeliner. I did not wear makeup until I was 16 and in college.

@SW-User I think a lot has hanged over time. Now there are girls in elementary and middle school that wear makeup everyday to school. Expectations for looking good as a young women have changed so much probably because of Instagram.
I know there a lot of emphasis put on appearances. But having self-love will help you so much regarding what others think about how you look, and anything else they might think about you.

What other people think, is their business, not yours.
And I truly understand about needing to look a certain way for other people. I've been dealing with that all my life - showing them how smart I am, how intelligent, how creative, how well I can satisfy them and accommodate all their wants and needs. And all for the sake of survival. But, things are getting better. Mostly, because my giving up my life for others was killing me.

Make up was never really my thing. I do feel this way about earrings though. I feel like I have to have them most of the time to look better. That along with lip gloss or carmex.

The value of self esteem and feeling good about yourself far outweighs what superficial value makeup could ever bring. If friends don't accept you for who you really are, then they're not really friends are they?
sweetcheekz · 22-25, F
@PatKirby Why are you under the impression that putting on makeup somehow makes you a completely different person?

@sweetcheekz
Let me clarify something. Real confidence comes from the inside, not the outside. Good luck.
sweetcheekz · 22-25, F
@PatKirby that's not really clarifying your last statement, you are just making a completely different statement.

Smack your face a few times your lips will plump up your eyes will darken and your cheeks will get rosey.

I am glad I still care enough to put some foundation on. I have permanent everlasting acne ever since I went off BCP almost 3 years ago...which means my skin is fugly with or without makeup. I haven't felt pretty or confident about my looks ever since so I just throw some foundation on to at least show I have some regard for other people so that they wouldn't need to look at that abomination in its full hideousness.

This Summer, try to use sunscreen and lip gloss more and try to really cut down. It could be more of a habit and actually adding to your breaking out. It’s really hard to say without knowing you. I am seeing more and more young women more natural. Peaches and cream healthy is a great look. Oh, smile even more and boost up your bubblyness and happy personality. That’s really attractive and cheap too!😊🌷
JupiterDreams · 31-35
I feel good without it but I like doing it anyway haha
rachelsj · 22-25, F
Rarely use it
SW-User
Depends where I go.
Sunscreen and cream are always needed for me regardless
SW-User
Sometimes, especially when I have acne marks after a terrible breakout.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Breakouts are temporary. You are permanently hot. Remember that .
I don’t care, tbh. When I’m going to visit with someone, part of dressing up sometimes means makeup. But when I’m just running errands, especially nowadays, it’s just a neat appearance, combed hair and a clean face. I’m not really trying to impress anyone.
I check my matching clothes and typically a hat and I must shave first.
I’m surprised you seem like you are very secure and independent

Overdone makeup is awful.
sweetcheekz · 22-25, F
@HannahSky agreed

Yes, I always feel better with some type of make up.

But I need help, I just can't get it to look good.
