It comes down to the decades-long inter-relationship between big business corporate interests collaborating with big government to keep the intelligence level of American school children at or below a certain level characterized by no independent or critical thinking skills. They've managed to maintain that intelligence level that procures public labor capacity at the obedience level only. Although a bit bombastic, George Carlin humorously explains this decades-old phenomena quite well (about ~1:29min - not for tender ears)...

It is still very much in place as it continues to be firmly implemented today because it works.

Kind of funny how the way we measure time has changed. Remember the hour glass? How about the way King Alfred the Great knew which hour it was by putting rings on a burning candle.

@hippyjoe1955 Isn’t it interesting how something things change but some things stay the same? 😆

Can't even write in cursive either. Forget about approximating time by looking up at the sun, it has to be digital for them now. With: 1) the pathetic state of affairs as public schools manipulate and abuse grading curves, 2) dismissing actual learning to read/write/do basic math out of hand just to move these kids along to the next grade, and 3) kicking the can down the road with worthless curricula - the results are their basic ability to perceive reality is stunted.
Recent reports indicate 1 in 8 incoming freshmen can't do basic math, and 1 in 5 fail entry-level writing tests:

And they complain about the labor force not accepting them? No wonder contemporary employers are rejecting/firing them en masse.

@PatKirby I am always amazed at how the academic standards have fallen. When I was in grade school only the elite students went of to college and university. Now everyone goes and even worse no one can read or write or do math!

I haven’t heard that one yet.
