RIGHT. OKAY. So. Humans are growing bits of HUMAN SKIN on ROBOTS now.

Which is—well. That's lovely, isn't it? Very clever. Very scientific. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Just one question, though.

WHY DOES THE ROBOT NEED SKIN?!

It's a ROBOT! It's supposed to have, I dunno, METAL on it! Maybe a nice bit of plastic! Not—people bits!

What's next? Are we putting teeth on the computers? Eyeballs on the toaster? Are you going to give the bloody kettle a nervous system?!

...Actually, hang on. If you can grow skin on a robot, could you grow a brain in one?

Because I've got a bit of a situation with mine.
...
NO, THAT WAS A JOKE. I HAVE A BRAIN. PROBABLY. DON'T WRITE THAT DOWN.

Because people would be more accepting of something synthetic if it bears a similar likeness... A bit like so many of the catfish that venture into here and how well people take to them. AI programs that study us and in turn learn to do things we like and so forth. We've been shifting toward something like this for decades, it's just that when it's something so blatant like that, we find it scary, unnatural "inhuman" because we can understand that if technology has advanced in such a way to do a thing so remarkable, then perhaps we would be fooled by it and that is terrifying to some. The thing is, it's been happening a long time.

Sorry for being weird, I just have a serious deep love and interest in robotics and things of the like. Machines are fascinating.

It’s been done already. Stan Trek: First Contact. The Borg Queen captures data, and gives him a patch of skin and then blows on it. He almost betrayed the Federation over that blow job.

@Northwest Original Star Trek. Harry Mudd's androids. Also another episode involving a underground android society.
