Future of the workforce

I am concerned about something. What are all of these people, whose job is being taken by AI, going to do for a living?

Well, they MIGHT have to re-train, and learn to do something else. The ex was a glazier and worked on construction jobs until he got a weird disease and his hands and feet swelled up. I sent him to Mass Rehab, and they, in turn, paid for his re-education. He because a computer guy...updated servers and maintained desktops for a large financial company.

@Nitedoc The ex was in his early fifties when he retrained. You don't stop being able to learn just because you are older.

@4meAndyou I was thinking more physically and mentally tired than unable to get retrained.

@Nitedoc Yes, I get that. Tired just goes with the territory.
What do they do now?

I mean computers have taken so many jobs... in theory, there will be new jobs...

But I am noticing it seems like it's becoming more extremely hard to get your foot in the door and get started in something new... seems like you almost need to know someone more than what it is you actually know.

Make sure the teeners have a job history, even if it's a do nothing job, but something they can put on a resume.

And network, network, network....

@sstronaut Resume?
Written by AI?
LOL 😂
A lot of jobs needed in skilled trades .. might have to see some retraining for some, younger people starting out there for at least part of it.

what about programmers?
LeotardWearer · 56-60, M
@NinaCherry Programmers definitely having a part of their job being replaced by AI - Turkeys voting for Christmas !! (not that they have any option)
Adrift · 61-69, F
I think they are putting way too much confidence in AI.
LeotardWearer · 56-60, M
@Adrift Usual IT Industry desperate to flog next Snake Oil thing. Despite being a skeptic I can see a few cases where it can genuinely add value but only a few. Not really sure I would call it "AI" yet - more like rebadged sophisticated Machine Learning.

Look at Amazon contemplating laying off 3000 / 15% replacing with automated robots.

And some other companies - layoffs
