Some are and some aren't. I have had only one lover. My wife, who is not a man, has enjoyed a variety of men.

I think people, once you remove the burden of bringing up children alone, have the potential to be polygamous
@Convivial so in essence you think not only men are polygamous/polyamorous by nature but women are too

But the only obstacle is bringing up children

Great angle .....
But how does that restrict or prevent one from having multiple partners?
Convivial · 26-30, F
@SilentObZerver think about it.... If you're busy looking after children who is bringing in the money to feed them?
@Convivial thats a good point!

You(the woman)can bring in the money if you work or the man ......

But if cos there are men who cater from their children yet are still in polyamorous relationship
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Even organized religion accepts this. Abraham had several wives. Several Muslim and Christian sects still practice it.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@SilentObZerver the father of the Jews Christian’s and Muslims. Honest Abe
@AthrillatheHunt interesting
I think that assertion was most definitely made by a man.
@Mindfulness so how do you see an assertion made of a group of people by a an individual who belongs that group

Is that assertion valid or the mere point that individual belongs to that group it invalidates the veracity/legitimacy of the assertion?

The common myth is men are polygamous but in reality women are as much polygamous as men are.
Bleak · 36-40, F
@Pomegranates Exactly. The myth was never that only men are capable of it, but that only men get judged less for it.
Bleak · 36-40, F
I think both men and women are capable of being polygamous by nature to some extent, because attraction is a human trait, not a gender-exclusive one. The real difference comes down to values, self-control, emotional attachment, and personal choices, not simply being male or female.
LeGrotesque · 41-45, F
I think most humans are poly by nature. We can all admit to being attracted to/having crushes on people other than who we're dating at the time. Or we can lie to ourselves. 🤷🏻‍♀
Mmiker · 46-50, M
@LeGrotesque Nice perspective
@LeGrotesque good point

Does having attraction for others automatically make one a poly
Or its what one chooses to do with the attraction while in the committed relationship ?
GoFish ·
no more than women 😒
GoFish ·
@SilentObZerver no as i don't believe in that at all it's just plain lust
@GoFish what if the "lust" is fueled by nature.....?
GoFish ·
@SilentObZerver that's just an excuse
faery · F
There may be more men than women that are... but there are both men and women who are poly and not all men are poly. Biology dictates that procreation is more important than intact family units.
lucasll · 18-21, M
I don’t think it is ALL by nature but a spectrum. Personally I never wanted to ever date or have sex with anyone other than my partner, and friends I talk with feel the same with religious or nonreligious reasoning.
MizzO · 36-40, F
I think that it's more nurture than nature and therefore a blanket statement that pigeonholes men to an idea they may not subscribe to.
@MizzO interesting point

What makes you lean toward nurture, and how do you account for the same pattern showing up across cultures and history?
MizzO · 36-40, F
@SilentObZerver because also found across cultures and history are men who don't fit that ideology. Most often times those societies have been impacted by outside influences as well. It really grinds my gears when people fail to take into account that men, and people in general are multifaceted beings. If we are talking about scientifically speaking then we have certain universal truths with a few outliers but if we are talking about preferences, there's too many factors to make such blanket statements imo.
Pambie · 26-30, F
The claim that it's "natural" has been used far too often to try to justify bad behaviour.
How would any of us know the true nature of men when we are all socially and culturally conditioned from birth ?

We are but the product of our familial, cultural and generational ethics🤷‍♀
@SilentObZerver hang on, i just had a thought:
By "leave the door open" do you mean 'walk out it and never come back', or "leave the door open" to invite more lovers in?
