Did you marry young?

We started dating when we were 14 and 18 and got married three years later. We're happy as can be. 🩷🩷

Good for you! We started dating at 15 and married when 22.

Lugwho · 61-69, M
We were both 27. 35 years this year.

People keep telling 28 was young to get married but I was convinced I was a late bloomer.
HumanEarth · F
My 1st marriage - yes I did. I was still technically in highschool. It only lasted 2 years
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
I was 25, got divorced at 32. Never again.
Bang5luts · M
@ScreamingFox i was married at 21 divorced at 35. Marriage created false sense of being owned by the other person. Yes you both are joined but still human and make mistakes
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@Bang5luts agreed. And people are allowed to grow and grow apart.
I had just turned 22😷
CleverGirl · 26-30, F
@whowasthatmaskedman That would be fairly young these days.
@CleverGirl Well I figured I wasnt going to get a better deal. So I grabbed her. It lasted 50 years, so it seems I was right. (Not that she would ever admit that)😷
I met my wife when she was 15 and I was 16, had a couple of kids before our mid twenties, got married, had a couple more kids before our thirties. Been married 31 years this year.

@Mindfulness Excellent! I started dating my wife when she was 14 but everyone was cool with it.

I have a question, but not sure if I can ask....

@CleverGirl I know two women who courted from 14 or 15, then married young. They both eventually divorced. One told me she grew to resent her husband as she got older because he'd effectively denied her those years of experimenting and experiencing life, love, sex, disappointment, joy. She felt she was too young and she shouldn't have married as a teenager, despite thinking at the time that it was what she desired. Her husband was slightly older, so she felt he should have been more empathetic and allowed her to live out her younger years without taking her as his wife. I know many will disagree with that, but I wondered what you thought and if you ever feared you'd develop a similar resentment? I'm glad you're happy and I wish you continued happiness.

@Richard65 Everyone isn't the same. Nothing was denied.
Richard65 · M
@CleverGirl not actively denied, but denied through the circumstances of being married early. She meant she was unable to experience relationships and boyfriends as a natural rite of passage. That was her feeling, but I appreciate it isn't yours. Thank you for answering.
