How accurate is the Zodiac?

So ... your Zodiac sign is based on where the sun was when you were born, right?? 😏

I was born on February 22 so everyone says I'm a Pisces. With me so far? Well, that conclusion is based on where the sun was on February 22nd, 1995. Right? Nope!!!! It's not.

I know this video is 14 minutes long which is beyond the attention span of most of us, but it's fascinating (and I LOVE Neil deGrasse Tyson!)

The current zodiac is at least a month off. I'm not a Pisces at all because while the sun was in Pisces on February 22 two thousand years ago when the signs were placed on the modern calendar, it was NOT in Pisces in 1995 on that date.

To understand that and a bunch of other mind-blowing astrophysics, check out the video. It's only 14 minutes. 😁

Whatever sign you think you are right now ... you are not that. 🤣

Okay, so I tried to be a good boy and watch the entire video before asking questions, but I guess the main one I need an answer to is, on July 7th, 1975, at 11ish a.m., what constellation was up there? Because yeah. 2000 years ago, I'd have been a Cancer.

@LordShadowfire That video is about the constellations, not zodiac signs. They are not the same thing. What those guys are doing is basically explaining how we shifted from the age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius, which does influence life and society but it doesn't alter our basic natures. Our zodiac sign will always be what it was when we were born.

@LordShadowfire Lol, I have no idea but I do know that I'm not actually a Pisces!

And thanks for watching it. I love this guy and watch a ton of his stuff.

@Crazychick Okay... But according to my birthday (22 February) peeps who buy into the whole zodiac thing would call me a Pisces.

The problem is that on 22 Feb 1995 the sun was NOT in Pisces. On 22 Feb two thousand years ago, it was. But our orbit has changed since the dates were set and no one has updated the zodiac calendar.

@sarabee1995 Could you please show me the source of your information that the Sun was not in Pisces on 22 Feb 1995? It doesn't matter what it was 2000 years ago. I don't think that has altered the signs of the zodiac so much as the constellations.

@Crazychick He explains it in excruciating detail in the video.

Astrological signs were created two thousand years ago.

The dates on our completely arbitrary and man-made calendar were assigned based on the sun positions during the year then and have never been adjusted.

You can verify this yourself.

Download any one of the many astronomy apps that find the constellations for you (not an astrology app, but an astronomy app ... I like Star Tracker). Looking up from my bed, I can tell you that Saturn is in Aquarius right now over my head.

Now... Using that app, check out where the sun is. Right now, looking at my floor (because it's nighttime here and the sun is on the other side of the world) I can see that the sun is in Virgo. But it's September 26. The sun is not supposed to be in Virgo according to astrology.

This is easy to verify yourself. 🙂

@sarabee1995 FYI, the Sun WAS in Pisces on February 22nd 1995 at around the third degree, I've just checked on this site:

https://alabe.com/freechart/

I used my own birthplace to check but you can try it yourself entering your own birthplace.

@Crazychick Yes. On Astrology sites and apps they list the sun as being in Pisces (because they have not updated in 2000 years -- the video explains this). But Pisces is an actual place in the sky with known borders and outlines. On any Astronomy app or website you can see where everything actually is.

Here is the sky at about noon on my birth date:

The sun is clearly in Aquarius, not Pisces. You can see Pisces up and to the left further along the Ecliptic.
