Our desires are real.
But it's loving, not being loved, that makes us free.

DunningKruger · 61-69, M
I think the desire to be loved is real. The love itself, though, may well be an illusion.

If that's an example of the clarity of her writing I'm glad I haven't bothered to read her. How can desire be an illusion?
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
@ninalanyon well because it's an emotional want, which is somewhat under our control more so than needing food and water, for example.

Yup. I'm teetering on the edge of this truth. It's not simple though.

Be free of what? Of love, or the illusion (if in truth, being loved is an illusion)?

If you want to be loved, then be the type of person you would want to be loved by. Once you truly become that person, accept no one who is not worthy of you.
Even if you could successfully argue the validity of the first sentence, the second still isn’t true. We shall always be tied to our physiological needs.
