We don't change people by fighting with them.

When I meet someone whose views are hurtful and vastly different than mine, that I wholeheartedly disagree with, I meet them with compassion.

You have to change a heart before you can change a mind.

I can get a conservative out on a picket line for my union by befriending them and caring about their workplace concerns, but not gonna convince them of a damn thing arguing about Trump online.

That's true, but there is just so much any one person can manage. I choose carefully whom I share my time with. If their inclination is more towards conflict with me, it's the wrong time in my life to approach them. I'd rather seek my own peace by leaving them to theirs.

The older I get the less I’m inclined to believe that we change people at all. When people don’t even believe what they can see with their own eyes, they seem unlikely to hear anything contradicting their beliefs, no matter how it’s delivered. 😞
