This was in my sisters yard a couple of days ago

The snout makes it looks like an Eastern Coyote. That’s a hybrid of wolf, coyote and domestic dog. They are very intelligent, a good bit larger than western coyotes and usually not too dangerous alone against an adult. In a pack they are more aggressive.

We have them where I live and one want to be careful with small children and pets.

A Coywolf is much smaller than a wolf, and range anywhere up to 50 pounds or so, while wolves, depending upon them being male or female, range anywhere between 70 to 100 pounds.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it appears to be a larger animal and might well be a wolf.

@Ontheroad coyotes are more mangy looking imo

Image too dark to determine its age.

Age has a lot to do with size.

Must say its coat doesn't look very thick. But again that would be a age thing even on a regular wolf.

It could be either a young wolf or a well feed older coy wolf.

It definitely doesn't look to be starving.

Wow! where does your sister live? I've never seen a wolf in real life. Lot's of coyotes but no wolves.

@Jenny1234 Wow, I didn't know there were bears in Orangeville! Yes with all the home building, they displace animals for sure. I'm about 5-10 min drive short of Hwy 9.

@JimboSaturn wouldn’t surprise me if there are bears where you are
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Jenny1234 I've never seen any and I've been in the bush. I think just too many farms and not enough woodland at least where I live.

If you're in Rhode Island there's been some sightings of black coyotes. But with the color on the underbelly my bet would be wolf. Awesome animals.
That's a wolf alright. Nice color phase.

@MaBalzEsHari how can you tell for sure?
@Jenny1234 I have hunted Alaska 6 times.........30 days each. I go alone and camp out along rivers...float hunt for moose and caribou....black bear if I get lucky. With fresh moose meat down in camp I have seen a lot wolves over my hunts close by. I have only seen 2 black wolves............both looked to be Alphas by size. I cannot tell size by the pic........nothing to compare the wolf in the pic too.........but it's a wolf for sure. Looks like a female.

That's a wolf because it doesn't seem to be shy. 🤷‍♂️😂 beautiful animal.

A coy wolf?
At least around here, wolves are impressive looking, while coyotes look a bit raggedy. I’d avoid either, but the picture looks more like a wolf.
