Does anyone get unreasonably excited when they see bugs in their room / apartment?

I'm talking "drop everything to identify the species" excitement. Tiny spider? Excellent. Beetle? Wonderful. Weird moth I've never seen before? Best part of the evening.

They're just fascinating little creatures. Most of them are completely harmless, and they're infinitely more interesting and less terrifying than people give them credit for.

I don't mind them. The cat thinks they're interesting too.

I always name them, helps me bond with the little friends. E.g. jumping spider John II. Or crane fly Bob.

You'll be fascinated when you see this

I just tend to go “Hey little guy”
But I love your energy about it

I used to get way overjoyed when lightning bugs would get in the house and fly around with their lil spotlights through the night. it'd make my dad overly angry and now I wouldn't want it because I'd feel bad for them not completing their buggy life. bust most other bugs I don't much care for.

@TheIntoxicatingAllure one hitched a ride in on my neck last night. I home I didn't damage him before I got him back out.

@Neuman Insects are surprisingly resilient despite how delicate they look. I'd feel so guilty still. I'd be apologising to it as I carried it outside!

@TheIntoxicatingAllure yeah, they've got a pretty difficult lot.

Winter is Lady bug season for me.

I just saw a white praying mantis literally a few minutes ago - it wasn’t in my room or anything, but I thought it was worth a mention!

@Oneofthestormboys Would love to see it!

@TheIntoxicatingAllure I’m sorry, it was gone. In some ways I’m glad, because it means nobody stepped on it 😊
TheIntoxicatingAllure · 22-25, FNew
@Oneofthestormboys Agreed! Perhaps I will see one of my own in the future.

@SinlessOnslaught You're not dumb at all! Identifying spiders is really hard, especially recluses. Wolf spiders are much more common, and they have a very distinct appearance: large front eyes that look like little cameras, fuzzy legs, often a dark stripe down their carapace.

On Recluses, the violin shape is faint on some adults and can be barely visible on younger ones. Also, wolf spiders are generally bigger and tend to move differently (wolves will scuttle faster). But yeah, online guides oversimplify it so badly. Would never rely on one of those. Get yourself the book Spiders of North America and thank me later.
@TheIntoxicatingAllure I will just throw them all outside. Not sure I can handle looking at all those images of spiders. They scare me. 😆

@SinlessOnslaught It's not your fault the internet is just full of lazy, overgeneralized guides. And I understand XD Some things are best admired hypothetically haha
When you have bugs, you have spiders that eat those bugs. Sometimes the bugs go into your bed sheets and bite you while you sleep. Spiders crawl on your face, mosquitoes suck blood from anything that is exposed and even through covers sometimes.
Having said all of that, I love bugs too. They can bite me, no big deal. I have pushed a few spiders off my face, or maybe I just dreamed I did.
