I hate our obsession with lawns.

If I don't have it mowed soon the neighbors are going to get pissy. But we've had wildflowers come up and we've got so many bees visiting the flowers. I don't want to mow them down. We need to be helping bees thrive.

I'd die living next to you. have to have a perfectly maintained yard. a lawn isn't a lawn unless it's like perfectly laid carpet

@saragoodtimes Even the lawn at the farm is green and manicured. Flowers blooming, Honeysuckle grew up over some lattice work we had over a stone walk way along the garden, making a honeysuckle tunnel. The humming birds and the bees love it. A bee keeper has nearly 100 hives out next to our pastures. Apparently alf-alfa honey is the best.

@saragoodtimes but why? Aesthetics? If it was so wild as to be sheltering rats I could understand but it's not that bad.
@TexChik our landscaper maintains the property. the lawn has to be perfect just past the pool and he maintains the rest with a natural hardscape that invites wildlife. we get deer and small animals which are welcome. I feed a colony of feral cats all who have been spayed and neutered . they are fed everyday and do keep rodents away
@ViciDraco sorry but you can't live in an exclusive neighborhood and have the yard look like a slum dweller lives there

@saragoodtimes We allow a few cats to live in the barns to control snakes and rodents, but we have to thin them out every year.
@TexChik I feed 8 and they don't let other strays hang around long. if I see one I will give it some food and water

@saragoodtimes I dont feed any of them. And if too many start to gather...we thin out the herd.

@saragoodtimes ew, I would never want to live in an exclusive neighborhood. So I'm good with that. Bring on the slum dwellers.
