Sea Lion having a rest on Penguin Island

This is the rare Australian Sea Lion. Only found here in Western Australia and South Australia.With a total population of 10 - 12,000. 85% of them reside in South Australia, the other 15% live here in Western Australia.
They live for 17 - 25 years, reaching breeding maturity after 12 years.
They feed from the sea floor, catching creatures such as octopus, sharks, rock lobster, cuttlefish and small rays.
Breeding cycles happen only once every 18 months and a female will only breed at the site where she was born.
Only 30% of pups survive to breeding age.

I've swam with them in the UK. They call them the labradores of the sea.

30% is pretty good odds to adulthood. . Hell, until about 200 years ago what was our odds to adulthood? 50% maybe?

@AthrillatheHunt well we humans are living longer while our wildlife is living shorter. I bet their odds were much better 200 years ago
