Most annoying dog breed to you?

As a semi-dog lover, I say semi because dogs are pets. They do t belong on the furniture, in my bed, in the kitchen or begging at the table. That said, my dogs are well taken care of and live with me in my house.

My girlfriend has two breeds I was never familiar with, the Golden Retriever and Chihuahua. Both are terrible to be around. The Golden is the most attention demanding creature I’ve ever seen. He is constantly in your face or under your feet. He will not allow you to even talk on the phone without his annoying attempts to have all of your attention. And the Chihuahua with his big personality is the absolute worse. A diaper has to remain on him at all times because his challenge to you is him looking you dead in the eye and cocking his leg on anything he chooses. He constantly is trying to bite you even though he is 16 and has no teeth but a couple. Sometimes it’s all I can do to refrain from showing him how much mightier my foot is than his entire scrawny body.

I absolutely love a golden retriever. I have a Labrador, my favorite, but a golden is certainly second. I am most assuredly a dog lover. Mine can get on my bed but not the furniture. He has his own bed in every room, plus the front porch. I love a dog in my face, and if he won’t let me talk on the phone, well I’ll call back

I don’t consider a Chihuahua a real dog

@Softandsweet2 one can’t help but to love a Golden, but they are so possessive of their people. If my gf shows me any type of physical affection, Sir Robert has to position himself between us and practically demand I pet him. Even if she shows her chihuahua attention Bob won’t allow it. Dobermans have always been my favorite even though I’ve only had 1. He was special to me and after him it was many, many years before I would agree to having a dog, and that was only for my sons. When I lost Spock, my Doberman, that was as painful as losing a family member…. Oh, and Goldens shed like nothing I’ve ever seen…

@MyGirlPhotoswell I’ve had to put down two dogs. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Cried till I was out of tears and still couldn’t stop. My lab sheds really nad too, but he’s worth the effort. Love him so much.

@Softandsweet2 I've had a lot of dogs. With a Siberian Husky now. But pound for pound, my Chihuahua was the most athletic, smart and courageous dog I've ever had. Was NOT expecting that when my girlfriend brought him home. I just thought they were yappy. We would rescue dogs and bring them until the owner could be found and he ran that show. No matter how big another dog was. They are their own thing. GOTTA' train them though. I don't think people put the same time in with small dogs.

@Ynotisay Training is certainly very important. I’ve never owned a Chihuahua, but I’ve been bitten by two. Get you right at the Achilles tendon - ouch.

@Softandsweet2 Yeah. They can absolutely snap. Especially when they get old. Can't let that happen even if the damage is minimal. I always tried to remember that the world is a VERY big place and "fighting back" is sort of baked in to their cake. Gotta' get rid of that. I wouldn't get another one but understand why some have them.
@Ynotisay That’s very true about Chihuahuas, they have to be well-trained. I had one as a teenager, and once my father trained him, he was a great dog.

Because they are so smart, they tend to challenge any sibling pets and inexperienced owners. People often think that because they’re tiny they’re easily controlled, which is a mistake. They’re definitely not recommended as a first dog.
