Australia's Federal government lists koalas as endangered in NSW, Queensland and ACT

Why are Koalas now endangered?
Prolonged drought, the Black Summer bushfires, disease and habitat loss over the past 20 years.
Successive Governments are too frightened to go against the industries that are destroying Koala habitat.
The Mining Industry and the Logging Industry donate huge amounts of money to both Political Parties thus ensuing land clearing of Koala habitat continues at a break neck speed.
Shame on both Political Parties who have overseen the destruction of the forests where the Koalas live.
Koalas will become extinct because of pathetic Politicians

Koala's habitat is a very delicate balance of food and water. They're not like many animals that can roam larger distances for food or water. Koala's sleep about 20 hours a day and it gives then about an hour to eat a certain kind of gum leaf, find water and go on dates with other Koala's. Humans aren't helping at all.

While I certainly don't disagree with you, it's necessary to include urban sprawl in the equation.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Bushranger Yes, thank's for reminding me, I did forget to include developers

@Bushranger THANK YOU!!!
The Australian government state and federal are really destroying this country in every way possible and our way of life and all natural elements it has to offer.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@AwakeningConfession221122 I agree. No matter which party is in power, the Australian environment will be destroyed, for profits.
Quite sickening.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Who elects the politicians though? The people, it's because of humans why animals are going extinct.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Gusman I agree with the sentiment but I still slightly disagree (not that I disagree with the sentiment, I get it trust me) it's just because I feel like people give power to the politicians and yet they can take it away at any point they choose. They choose not to. The issue is we have the case of the stupids and those stupid people elect stupid politicians, the stupid people who are citizens have all the power through voting. We can take power away from the politicians at any point in time, we allow this.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SatanBurger People do take power away from the Politicians every time they vote the incumbent government out.
The incoming government virtually does what the outgoing government was doing.
Always claiming, we were left with a terrible state of affairs by the previous government.
There have been 4 changes of government over the previous 25 years, representing both parties, all decided to do nothing to stop the loss of Koala habitat.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@SatanBurger We can only get rid of current governments when elections come up. If a government passes legislation that allows people to clear forests (koala and other flora/fauna habitats), those laws remain in place until that government is evicted. The damage that can be done during that period is not something that can be immediately fixed by a new government. One the damage is done, it's hard to undo it.

We have lost far too many species in Australia already. But the damage is going to continue.

Its impossible to think that Koala bears could become extinct. Australia = Koala, shame on them!

Politicians for sale, effect the natural wellbeing of humanity and animals alike, in so many ways. The results can be devastating and should be punished severely, for this greed-based betrayal.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Oster1 Politicians have immunity from prosecution for policy decisions. That is my understanding.
So no matter the outcome of bad policy, no Politician can be held to account through the legal system.
deadgerbil · 22-25
Sounds about right. Lots more money to be made regarding mining, etc than conserving wildlife. And these huge companies etc don't care until there's massive outcry.
deadgerbil · 22-25
@Gusman when the gov touts jobs and money, I bet a sig % of people who previously cared become reluctant to say anything as money has power and then they vote for said parties.

If enough people boycott said industries and cared when voting, it would stop, but there's really no hope in getting hundreds of millions of people there and abroad on the same page to dry up the earnings of previously lucrative industries.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@deadgerbil Agreed. The public are apathetic and it is this apathy that will see Koalas go extinct in the majority of Australia.
They will only survive in zoos and conservation parks.
deadgerbil · 22-25
@Gusman taking serious action would ultimately cause a raise in prices of everyday goods to accommodate more sustainable and 'green' manufacturing practices. Just like here in the US, lots of our goods are cheaper because big companies find slave labor in other countries or countries that allow these companies to cut corners and pollute as much as they please.

People vote with their wallets and given how every election, various politicians want to deregulate industry and lower prices, there is no big incentive to simply absorb the costs of being environmentaly friendly.

Australia's Federal government Minister for Sport has placed a 2 stroke penalty on any player not hitting a Cane Toad more than 5 metres with each swing.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User There is another fu*k up.
Not enough resources were granted and cane toads will end up like rabbits and foxes. Uncontrollable.
