Just struggling

I miss drinking everyday. It’s exhausting. Sometimes I take extra meds and I know I shouldn’t but it’s just so hard to not have alcohol. It’s been like 7 months now.

This is not me offering any advice, this is just me sharing my experience.

I switched from alcohol to weed. It changed my life for the better. I know it's not the popular healthy opinion but it works for me. I haven't had a drink in 6 years. I do smoke everyday so I just slid from being dependant on one substance to another. It complements my mood stabiliser and antidepressants well. It was like something clicking. I went from being non functional to taking part in life again. The drawback is the lung damage. There are alternative ways to consume THC though that don't involve smoking.

Based on safety, toxicity, & long-term health effects, weed (cannabis) is generally considered less harmful than alcohol. While alcohol is highly toxic, linked to at least seven types of cancer, and causes significant mortality, cannabis has no known lethal dose and carries fewer, though not zero, physical risks.

I have struggled with a different kind of addiction, and my recovery group includes a number of alcoholics. Based on my experience and theirs with various addictions, I can describe a common experience: a day comes, completely unexpected, when we go to bed at night and it hits us that we did not think about our addiction at all that day!

It may seem as if this will never happen, but hang in there and trust that eventually you will turn the corner.

I know it is difficult!
