I really want to take a good, long break from drinking once fall starts

It’s been a while since I’ve been on a really bad self-destructive binge, but I do still drink. Mainly when I’m hanging out at my sister’s place. But she’ll be closing up her pad for the season by the end of the month and when she does, that’s when I plan on stopping. I want to be able to say I’ve gone a good while without drinking. Desmond himself said when we started living together, that he would like me to try to not drink as much in our home. And our house is technically his. Even though we’re in a relationship, he’s still listed as the head tenant with me as his roommate on paper, so I want to respect that if he doesn’t want drinking in his place. I’m really going to try.

I'm in a very similar situation, our apartment belonging to my husband and him not liking when I drink. I know we don't speak but just a heads up if you do see this, be careful to not get in the mindset of Desmond being the main reason that you don't drink, because that can easily mess it up, at least in my experience with my husband. It always starts with me quitting for myself, but once I wanna drink again it makes him in a bad mood, hence I end up holding out because of that, which makes me feel like I'm no longer doing it for me, and messes with the natural flow of quitting, assuming you might drink a couple more times before giving it up completely. Basically I'm saying that it can become a bad cycle if the choice to drink or not is affected by his feelings about it.

@Nightwings Yes, exactly. Resentment can become one of the worst things that can happen during these times, especially if you're in a relationship.

Good Luck! Just stay positive and try not to set yourself up for failure. I know it's easier said than done when your body is playing tug-of-war with itself. But it gets better after you hit that withdrawal peak. 🤗
I believe in you and we will be here to support you along the way
It will be good, stay strong
