Alcohol has been shown not only to increase aggression in the people who drink it, but those people themselves often end up victimized and we count that as violence and crime, too. So the answer is yes. Whether it’s a fistfight between two good drunk friends or a societal crime problem, alcohol doesn’t help.

Someone much wiser than me said that "it is not what goes into a man that makes him unclean but rather what comes out of him". Alcohol is a neutral factor. A man of peace will remain peaceful. A man of violence will become violent.

I think it depends on the person. I used to be a heavy drinker but I was never violent. I might get overly affectionate, but not aggressive.

I think they have to have it in them. It lowers one’s inhibitions, but it doesn’t necessarily change their personality. It may reveal what it actually is. 🙁

@bijouxbroussard I agree, I've known a lot of people who are pleasant and funny when drunk and have had the same said about myself.

I never got violent upon drinking (too much)
I do get terribly funny though 🤠

It can. Alcohol usually amplifies a person's traits. It will lower anyone's inhibitions, but how that's expressed is unique. Some get clingy, some get dancy, some get verbal and some get physical.
But here's the rub - we all have violence in us. It's a matter of how hard you want to look for it.

The person already has it in them

They have to have it in them. I'm a lush, and I'm never violent.

Alcohol, poverty and violence are the devil's triangle ▲. They are deeply related. Which side of a triangle causes the other ones to occur? 😐

basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
I think it depends on the person really.
I've never been violent when drunk, on the contrary, I usually mellow out.

It does not cause violence, but it creates impulsiveness. If you have a tendency towards violence to start with it may bring that out.

The alcohol brings out the real, nasty personality.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
