Sex addiction in the elderly.

Here's an interesting article about Ozzy Osborne and his sexual addiction.
https://www.pbinstitute.com/blog/seniors-sex-addiction/
Of course sex addiction can exist without any sex partner. It could even be only in one's head :). Is it harmful, or 'just one of those things'?
When I go see my dad, within minutes of our visit his conversations with me devolve into talking about women, sex, his past conquests. When he nearly died and I spent two months living in his state to take care of him and make sure everything was good before I left, He propositioned me with the idea that a sexual relationship would be mutually beneficial.

so, is sex addiction harmful? Or just one of those things?

@nonsensiclesnailThe experiences you describe with your dad are horrible. I'm very sorry to hear of them and how they have affected you and your views about life & relationships.

I guess my original question should have been more like "is all sexual addiction always harmful to the addict?" That's what I was thinking about when I wrote it, bearing in mind that some (many?) sexual addictions directly affect no one but the addict. I phrased my question too vaguely, though - sorry for that (and for inadvertently triggering you!).

The addiction's effect on the addict is still something I ponder - along with what really causes addictions in the first place? Where do they come from; what are their roots?
@nonsensiclesnail It is possible (unless you've already had it checked) that he has physical damage (either through injury or an event like a stroke (or even form of dementia) to the part of the brain that handles those types of feelings - people with this condition present as overtly sexual and this often causes carers difficulty but may be worth seeking consultation with an expert if possible as there may be ways to manage it.
@CheekyBadger Sadly, no. He has always been this way. Not quite as direct and straight forward as he was due to the pain meds he was on I suspect, but this is who he is. Thank you though.

Sex addiction is really what society defines it.

If a society believes that masterbation is wrong. Society will go to no ends to stop it. Fortunately that isn't the case in many societies. Yet in the case of polygamy this is very much true in many societies.

There are other such cases. The list is quite large. And why nudity really isn't approved in US culture. Yet is not such a big deal in other cultures.

Any addiction is harmful..

@Wiseacre Absolutely true. (Edit) Unless of course "U" are happy meeting people who can enjoy mutual sarcasm that might be humorous, teasing or just appropriate in the context of a topic.

@Wiseacre The 'mean or sarcastic' post to which I think you're referring was in response to @fable, who plainly set out to be as obnoxious & insulting as possible. I'm sorry if you took it to be aimed at you (?). I usually try to name - or quote - whoever I'm replying to (I wish every one would do so) but I see that in this case, with fable, I failed to do that.

Sorry if your feathers were ruffled 😉.

No problemo @Really

If a person with an addiction - apparently unable to quit some habit or other (smoking, masturbating, chewing one's nails ... ) - if that person eventually does quit, maybe it was wrong to call it an addiction in the first place.
