Sex addiction in the elderly.

Here's an interesting article about Ozzy Osborne and his sexual addiction.

Of course sex addiction can exist without any sex partner. It could even be only in one's head :). Is it harmful, or 'just one of those things'?

When I go see my dad, within minutes of our visit his conversations with me devolve into talking about women, sex, his past conquests. When he nearly died and I spent two months living in his state to take care of him and make sure everything was good before I left, He propositioned me with the idea that a sexual relationship would be mutually beneficial.

so, is sex addiction harmful? Or just one of those things?

That's the question I already posed. Note that I said "sex addiction .... could even be only in one's head :).

I'm sure your Dad's behavior was very distressing for you and I sympathize. Do you think he was delusional, maybe suffering a form of old-age dementia - or had he always said inappropriate things to you?

Do you feel his bizarre conversations while in your care have harmed you? You say that was 'before you left.' What situation was he in then, and afterward?

Your story is interesting.

@Really You sound sick talking about something like that as if it can be turned into a calm intellectual discussion. My guess is that you are sick, that you have a sex addiction and the answer to your question is CLEARLY a profound YES. People like you and him should not be treated as humans, you should be euthanized painfully.

@Entheesa That's just TOO funny!

@Really At least it gives me some relief that you're old enough to die soon.

Me too (and thanks for the good wishes). But I grieve for what my grandkids are going to be faced with.
Distressing to me. 😂 Nearly getting into an accident while driving down the freeway is distressing.
One more male trying to fuck me is something else. And when it's my father? Distressing is not a word I would use.

When I was little, one of his favorite movies was about a little girl so in love with her father that she killed her mother and her brother to be with him. Ive seen it many times with him.

Have his sex addiction harmed me? Has it altered and changed our relationship? @Really Its made me hate men that much more. People who see others as flesh bags to fuck and emotions to manipulate to get themselves off.

When I was 14 he was obsessed with video cameras. He wanted to buy me one, though I never asked or cared for one. And then one day he comes to me and tells me he has changed his mind because he doesn't want me and my friends making porn.

Also, no, he's never touched me. But he most absolutely has his demons and Ive always been aware of them.

He told me about 8 years ago that my then teenage daughter had an amazing ass.
These points are merely the fun highlights I'm willing to share publicly, certainly not everything.

His sex addiction is mostly in his head, now. He's 84 yers old.
I had the internet installed for him, got his TV set up with Netflix, Hulu and such. In his mind I'm setting him up with a porn. So, I ignore his low speaking and excitement while I explain to him how to find, you know, movies. But being that he can't even figure out how to use the browser on the iPhone I gave him, so I know damn well he never found porn.

For me, this is just my dad. I am looking forward to never having to see him again.

Does his addiction harm? I hate him, my brother hates him, his exes despise him and he is completely and utterly alone. Thats why its been me who tries to have a relationship with him and makes sure hes ok. He only needs me when he has no one else. And even when Im the only person who visits him, talks to him, makes sure he is eating more than canned chili and frozen corn, checks to see that his bills are getting paid and has conversations with him just to see if hes ore confused this time than last. Thats when I get to hear about the women he fucked, he wants to fuck, his dead wife and how much he misses her, the new hot waitress at Dennys, and so on. and on and on... he's a fucking creep.

@nonsensiclesnailThe experiences you describe with your dad are horrible. I'm very sorry to hear of them and how they have affected you and your views about life & relationships.

I guess my original question should have been more like "is all sexual addiction always harmful to the addict?" That's what I was thinking about when I wrote it, bearing in mind that some (many?) sexual addictions directly affect no one but the addict. I phrased my question too vaguely, though - sorry for that (and for inadvertently triggering you!).

The addiction's effect on the addict is still something I ponder - along with what really causes addictions in the first place? Where do they come from; what are their roots?
@nonsensiclesnail It is possible (unless you've already had it checked) that he has physical damage (either through injury or an event like a stroke (or even form of dementia) to the part of the brain that handles those types of feelings - people with this condition present as overtly sexual and this often causes carers difficulty but may be worth seeking consultation with an expert if possible as there may be ways to manage it.
@CheekyBadger Sadly, no. He has always been this way. Not quite as direct and straight forward as he was due to the pain meds he was on I suspect, but this is who he is. Thank you though.
