Question about displaying your age

For those people who choose not to display your age, what is your main reason for concealing it? I prefer to talk to people who are at least my age or older so I really like to know how old people are. I feel like I'd have more in common with people my age.

I don't wanna feel old lmao but I have no problem telling people my age if asked
StygianKohlrabi · 46-50, M
I want people to know my age too
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I have no issue letting people know I`m OLD. 😬
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@Degbeme but you have a young head, you have a playful nature 🙂
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@PatientlyWaiting25 Young at heart. ;)
I want to forget I'm above 35.
@Hatt94 not dissing younger people though…just to be clear.
Hatt94 · 56-60, MVIP
@InterdimensionalSideEye of course not. I chat with younger all the time.

I have no problems telling my age.
eyeno · M
I dont like to be pigeon holed.
My Posts, comments and opinions come from me not a specific age group, young, old or otherwise. And you get to meet and make friends with a broader range of people.

PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@eyeno for fun though, I think you are at least 50 probably older.
Magenta · F
I don't like to be pigeon holed or perceived based on a number. There's quite a bit of ageism and bias here.
I'm human first and foremost and that is most important.

Well, besides, I'm old. 😄

ETA: It's really no-ones business either unless I choose to say.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@Magenta I think you are probably in the 50-55 age group.
Magenta · F
@PatientlyWaiting25 Older actually, but I'll take it! 😊
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@Magenta young at heart 🙂
faery · F
I prefer to share any stats beyond my gender - which I feel would be obvious anyway - on an individual basis. I've been very creeped out by a user here who was trying to compile information about me to find out even more about me off site.
@faery I feel the same. Meh.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@faery I don't blame you. I think that would creep any of us out.
Floki · M
MommaBear · 26-30, F
I hid my age when I was in the 18-21 age group because there was a ton of creeps that would message me and then I started displaying it again in the 22-25 age group and the creeps cut down by half.. even now in the 26-30 age group I still deal with creeps but not nearly as much as when I was in the 18-21 group
Don’t want people’s preconceived notions about age to influence our interactions. Also, it’s nobody’s business and if I wish to disclose my age because I feel comfortable and it’s relevant, then I will.

Lol….. plus I’d say that anyone with half a brain reading my responses would realize I’ve been around the block a time or three. 😅
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@OlderSometimesWiser your name gives the slightest of hints, but only to those who are wise enough themselves 😀
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@OlderSometimesWiser for fun, I think you are in the 55-60 age group.
Ferric67 · M
@OlderSometimesWiser it’s just not smart to openly share personal info
I have made it known I think that I'm older, talking of being in my 50s. But when I had my age listed it always brought people saying that I was lying.That I wasn't that old, which honestly, if I was gonna lie about my age..it wouldn't be to make me older
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
I thought you were younger than me, but not by much, maybe 35-40 age group @Bexsy
@PatientlyWaiting25 i turned 53 last month 😀
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@Bexsy four years older than me then ☺
it's rarely pertinent on here
and on a rare occasion where it is, I don't mind disclosing it at all

what's really effed up on here is that people have the ability to hide their age yet still choose to pretend to be 100+ and display that instead ... lying about yoru age in this way A) violates the TOS and B) breaks filters ... when all you had to do was A) not lie and B) not display your age ... (they do the same thing with their sex, e.g., an F pretending to be an M and displaying that, instead of just hiding the sex ... or creating a fake alt for their cat or such) ... people are just not logical at all
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@SnickersDOM I always assumed the 100+ people were rebels choosing to purposefully "hack the system" in a humourous way. It's pretty obvious the people lying about what sex they are. Men and women communicate totally differently.
Floki · M
Why should I display my age
Floki · M
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@Floki so that people don't jump to the wrong conclusions. I think you are younger than me, probably 30-35 age group.
Floki · M
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I post my age group for the same reasons
I think honestly after you interact with somebody for a while you can tell if they're your age or not for the most part.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@Justmeraeagain that's true
tbh i don't know. one can take make a pretty good guess how old i am because of the posts i make about the 70s and 80s etc.....but i'll say it again here, i'm 55
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@beermeplease I actually thought you were a bit younger, about 45
TheHammer · M
I feel like displaying the age creates bias
I'm in the middle somewhere. And that allows me to talk to people of all ages. Without the preconceived ideas

Plus I'm not looking for romance or a fling. So who gives a shit
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@TheHammer Id never thought about that, I guess it does change your perception when you know how old a person is.
TheHammer · M
@PatientlyWaiting25
Yes of course
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
It's personal information Gosh only knows what witch doctors, voodoo artists, occult devil worshippers, artificial intelligence and such can do with that information.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@FloorGenAdm that sounds scary
Showing your age creates a bias for who people think you are. I’m just here to kill a little time and talk to people when I feel like it not make deep connections so it’s not relevant.
Floki · M
@Floki thanks. About to log off, catch you later.
Floki · M
@InterdimensionalSideEye don’t be too long again
Docdon23 · M
I took my age off because several people told me "___old man", like, wrote me off as useless and old...too bad people act that way but they do...I am older than you are
@Docdon23 That blows, and it happens the other way around too. People disqualify your thoughts, beliefs, opinions, and words if you're "too young" also.
ironborn · M
I think it restricts or can restrict who wants to talk to you, but can be frustrating too.
@ironborn I'll assume you mention shouldn't instead of should - and there isn't even an adult content here.
ironborn · M
@Magicianzini edited.

So SW let the pedo nonces have access to kids...it's vile.
@ironborn That's my point. Don't have them put their ages on.
Ontheroad · M
In a word, ageism. I use a picture of myself which if anybody looks, gives away my age - maybe not the exact year, but certainly says that I'm old.

Also, I've told my age (currently 78) more than once, but displaying it feels counterintuitive to communicating with a broad range of people.
I'm not sure why, I think originally it was out of security.
I regularly mention that I'm in my fifties, so it's not that I'm hiding it per se.
I don't see age as being a barrier to who I'll speak to. Except for anyone 21 or under, and that is because a lot of people in that age group are quite immature. That said, there are plenty of older people just as immature on here, but that's what mute and block are for.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@Mindfulness it's interesting, I would have guessed you to be that age.
@PatientlyWaiting25 As I said, I mention it frequently.
And a lot of the music I post is 80's, 90's. Some say that the jokes I post are even older! 😂
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
Originally it was a desire to not be judged on my age or have people try to limit interaction because of it and also because I use the site anonymously and felt age wasn't a detail people needed.

Through both some of my own maturing and realizing that some people find it an important detail and hoping that if I ever really connect with someone here that out be done without false pretense, I decided to start showing it.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@ViciDraco I find it an important detail.
AdaXI · T
I don't show mine but I'm probably having a midlife crisis LOLZ😄
乂^‿^乂
Just because there are alot of weirdos out there who might gather info.

In my 30s though.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic I had assumed you were quite a bit older than you actually are, I was quite surprised when I realised how young you are.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I had it hidden when I made this account because I didn't want people to link it to my old one, then I just left it that way until I turned 31 and then I put it on mainly for myself as a reminder that I'm not 20-something year old anymore, lol. To let it sink in.
I find it alarming when people have no avatar, no profile/about me, no posts but the frequent your page and troll you . There are many on here and i find very rude... Sick
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@masterofyou they troll you?? Also, how can you tell they visited your page?
@PatientlyWaiting25 How can they not, when send nasty unsolicited messaging in my DM on here...Of course i then block them and sometimes report them....
Ferric67 · M
The less that people know of me, the better
I’m not here to make public my personal info….that’s just careless or stupid, no? You’re asking for trouble
Magenta · F
@Ferric67 I'm doubting most don't realize how easy it is to investigate and find out who someone is or where they live, etc...based on little information. If they've been here a long time and paid attention, absolutely it is possible.
Ferric67 · M
@Magenta I’m well aware of how easy it is to find things on people, hence….why I do my best to be as off the grid as possible

As a matter of fact, at work, we converted to magnetic locks….but, since, I’ve stopped using cellphones, I get a secret key for a secret door 🤫
Magenta · F
@Ferric67 Wow. You're prepared. ;-) 😎
