Neighbor asking me for favors, how would you handle this?

I dont know her personally. We say hello to each other like neighbors do in passing. Anyways, I come home to a note on my door from her stating ," It’s me, your neighbor im going to bermuda. Can I leave my keys with you and you watch my car? Also, can you pick me up from the airport on monday?" Um, wtf 😳 I pretend not to see it and put it on another neighbors door.

Sure... When you pay me the going rate for a taxi driver and valet... in advance.
@HootyTheNightOwl 🤣🤣🤣 right like wtf was she thinking and who the hell does she think she is too leave that on my door? Shes nuts

Put a note on her door detailing your prices for house security and chauffeuring. Make sure you are clear you expect a gratuity on top regardless of the quality of service.
@meJess 🤣🤣🤣 i love this.
meggie · F
No. What if something goes wrong in the house or it's burgled or she says something is missing? I wouldn't want to risk it. When you go in there too she may of left further notes.
@Diotrephes yeah that note scared me i thought someone broke into my apartment. So she really pissed me off. Thats why i threew her note elsewhere

There are no really good answers to such a problem if you live alone without a real support system. We will all need someone's help at some time or another. You can get sick and end up in the hosiptal for days, or even months. Or you could go out of town for a few days or a week. It would be wonderful if you could rely on at least on person nearby who would check on your stuff once in a while. Sometimes you can stop your mail. Depending on where you live you may need someone to put out your trash, do yardwork, turn on and off your lights, etc. Otherwise, a burglar might assume that the place is deserted and rob it.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to ask the cops to do drivebys to see if there is any obvious damage.

Right now it might be easy to dismiss a neighbor's request for assistance but if you live long enough you will face those very real problems yourself and need some kind help.
@Diotrephes thats what family is for. Stop putting blind faith in strangers. Ppl like you often become victims to predators because ur too trusting, naive and desperate.this is why ppl like u end up unalived in ditches. Learn to love yourself

I am on good terms with my neighbor, and I know that her husband is a crew member on a cargo ship on an ocean somewhere. She could need to fly to meet him, so I would do what she asks. If she asks me to take care of her three kids, it's a "no."
@exexec ok?
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
That’s a lot to ask from someone she doesn’t know well.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Shorethingbabe1 So she's done this before?
@Queendragonfly So the neighbors door I put the note on took her to the airport 🤣😭. they regret helping her call me and tell me she was rude by not didn't even offering gas money, woke them up at 5am, and had them carry her bags smh and told them to watch her car. They told me she better not ask them to pick her up from the airport bc they're not doing it since she was so inconsiderate.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Shorethingbabe1 OK, she was parasite 😢

Wtf
"Sorry, I am working"

"Sorry, I have other plans"
@Diotrephes shut up 🤣🤣 who cares i have friends do u? Obviously u dont since ur so desperate

@GuyWithOpinions Either you're right and they get close friends or she will keep asking OP for favors.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@Queendragonfly then id do the one favor out of good faith and compromise if she comes asking for another
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@GuyWithOpinions Yeah I was thinking similar. It's always good to be friends with your neighbours since they can help you too
PoeticPlay · 51-55, M
You are correct in doing so.

@PoeticPlay IKR ?? ;-)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Wow…there is an airport shuttle service at most airports. That’s what I’ve used when I didn’t have a ride. If she can afford to fly she can well afford to use that service. And I live about 25 miles from the airport, it’s affordable.
@cherokeepatti exactly or get a dang uber.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
Is she afraid she'll lose her keys so she rather leave them with a stranger?

How old is she? This sounds a bit naive I would have hid the keys instead.
@Queendragonfly 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
SW-User
WTF... knock that on the head straight away. No, and no, would be my response!
@SW-User exactly who tf she think she is. I put that note on another neighbors door lol 😆 act like i aint see that shit

Keys maybe airport no
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I wouldn't complain. Since they are just asking. I might nor might not do any of that. Maybe just one thing. And hold to just that one thing. Yet for certain say yes, no, or whatever.

You don't have to be others doormat to be friendly.
Theyitis · 36-40, M
If you put it on another neighbor’s door, then won’t the note’s author be able to deduce that you saw it? Because the note wouldn’t have gotten up and walked to a different door on its own.
@Theyitis nope the wind blew it to another neighbors door.
Outdoorfreedom · 56-60, M
How well do you know her? If she's trustworthy I'd help but if you see red flags then I'd be very cautious.
@Outdoorfreedom this was the red flag🤣 . Read the post
Outdoorfreedom · 56-60, M
@Shorethingbabe1 yeah the last part especially sounds fishy.
Fluffybull · F
I'd have put a note in saying I was going to be away for a few days. Can't believe anyone would give a relative stranger their house keys and ask favours! 🙄
@Fluffybull weird and asking me if i can check on their car thats parked at her job lol 😆 wtf. I dont know her
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
🤔.......do the neighbor thing and pick her up at the airport.............Maybe she'll return the favor in some way.........
@Jimmy2016 dude get real
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
Picking someone up from the airport is like going all the way in platonic relationships.
SW-User
Yes I gave a homeless guy a quarter once and will regret it the rest of my life
@SW-User so funny i forgot to laugh
Pretty much the way you did. Perhaps I’d leave the note under her door with the message, "sorry, since we don’t really know each other I think you put this on my door by mistake".
@bijouxbroussard very clever .i like this.
Adrift · 61-69, F
Just stick one on her door that says, "Um,, No!"
Id say giddy up my saucy mate

There's an old saying that I've lived by since the day I first heard it. It goes like this:

Don't be friends with neighbors and don't have neighbors as friends.
@swirlie i 100% agree
Lilnonames · F
use her car and get signed statement saying u can after u make sure its her car
Lilnonames · F
@Shorethingbabe1 to help them out and make a new friend
@Lilnonames youre desperate
Lilnonames · F
@Shorethingbabe1 nope I'm not but you will never be my friend goodbye
