Stephen King adaptations

Too many try to adapt Mr King's books, it rarely works out, i pity the person who only sees his work through the silver screen. The books are ALIVE and pulsate, you get to know the characters so well then. The best imo of the movies based on his work were directorial visions - the big 3 by Stanley Kubrick, Brian De Palma, and John Carpenter ....:)

It’s true in most cases. Shawshank turned out to be pretty good on film. The last book i read was the extended version of The Stand(with the pandemic going on and everything) and it dragged out so badly,I couldn’t get myself to finish it
Oh! My bad. Wow! That was my favorite book. But to each their own. The scenes with Trashcan Man and The Kid could have stayed on the editing room floor. He was not one of my favorite character (pro or antagonist). So sorry you didn’t like it. I thought it was maybe his best, on par with The Shining. But again, to each their own. @SW-User

@DukeOfEarle well, the scene where the kid rapes him with a pistol while he jerking him off is pretty bizarre but I think the book is just too long overall. Religion is starting to play a big part after a while and the readers get introduced to too many characters when they meet on the road to mother Abigail. It might be just me of course
It’s a matter of tastes. I could have read another 1,000 pages. I was just mesmerized with the scope of it. But that’s OK. Sometimes long books can be a drag. @SW-User

I love Stephen King and agree that the books are better than the movies, BUT "The Green Mile" changed all that! 😉💕💙 I cried reading the book, AND watching the movie!😢

The Dark Half adaption was also pretty good. It stuck to the source material at least
Wow! I totally forgot about that movie until you just mentioned it. But I do remember it did stay true to the book. @JupiterDreams

They did a good job with The Stand and The Shining. Under the Dome was an insult to a great book.

@DukeOfEarle I liked both woth The Stand. You are the purists purist.
I mentioned above I did try watching it again. And on a second viewing I didn’t dislike it as much as I did on the first viewing. There is always going to be something missing from an adaptation from book to screenplay and I am OK with that. I think overall there were a few mis-cast actors or maybe the direction could have been stronger. It’s not by any means terrible. They’re giving it another go...whenever the world restarts. @Burnley123
I was just looking at IMDB for the reboot and the cast looks amazing! Take a peek when you get time. @Burnley123

I do strongly disagree, about which adaptions of Stephen King's writings to screen have been the "best". So does Mr. King.

@Piper I know he hated Kubrick's rendering, .... but imo nothing can compare to the books so a good movie to me at least must take liberties :)

@SW-User Only a relative few screen adaptions of his books, novellas or short stories have "compared' in a really positive sort of way, to me.
