Stephen King adaptations

Too many try to adapt Mr King's books, it rarely works out, i pity the person who only sees his work through the silver screen. The books are ALIVE and pulsate, you get to know the characters so well then. The best imo of the movies based on his work were directorial visions - the big 3 by Stanley Kubrick, Brian De Palma, and John Carpenter ....:)

It’s true in most cases. Shawshank turned out to be pretty good on film. The last book i read was the extended version of The Stand(with the pandemic going on and everything) and it dragged out so badly,I couldn’t get myself to finish it
I hated The Stand on first viewing. I gave it a second try years later and was able to get through it without as much loathing. Gary Sinese was a good get and an excellent actor but kinda miscast as Stu Redman. Molly Ringwald. Why? From what I gather they are rebooting it with Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abigail. To use a term from the book: “Whafuck?” @SW-User

@DukeOfEarle i never actually watched The Stand, only read it . I stopped at the chapters dedicated to the trashcan-man. That’s where i lost interest. I probably made a mistake on picking up the extended version
Oh! My bad. Wow! That was my favorite book. But to each their own. The scenes with Trashcan Man and The Kid could have stayed on the editing room floor. He was not one of my favorite character (pro or antagonist). So sorry you didn’t like it. I thought it was maybe his best, on par with The Shining. But again, to each their own. @SW-User

@DukeOfEarle well, the scene where the kid rapes him with a pistol while he jerking him off is pretty bizarre but I think the book is just too long overall. Religion is starting to play a big part after a while and the readers get introduced to too many characters when they meet on the road to mother Abigail. It might be just me of course
It’s a matter of tastes. I could have read another 1,000 pages. I was just mesmerized with the scope of it. But that’s OK. Sometimes long books can be a drag. @SW-User
