Time for the Name Drop

Have you ever met someone famous? I've met a few. I'm not talking going to a concert... most have done that. Something unique... like, I once handed a microphone to Mikhail Gorbachev. It was a pretty big deal, because it was not too long after the cold war. I grew up thinking he was public enemy number one 😅 I'm just curious about what other people have experienced 😊

I used to work for an entertainment industry charity in the Public Affairs office. We held several celebrity fundraising events, and I’ve met and spent time with many celebrities including Tom Hanks, Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jody Foster, Charlton Heston, John Ritter, Tom Selleck, John Schneider, Ann Miller, Dale Evans, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and others I can’t remember at the moment. I even met Donald Trump, but I try to forget that. 😉

Randomly, I’ve also met Peter Mayhew, Britney Spears, and the members of N*Sync and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. 😄

@ChampagneOnIce You're welcome... you stole the 'show' haha!!

Funny note... there are apartments where I work, and there once was a person living with her fiance who was one of the two people that formed the group Vertical Horizon. I went to picnics and he was there! But I've never had your experiences with so many!
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@ChampagneOnIce Why am I not surprised? 😅

It was surreal with him. Remembering the cold war, and kids chanting in school "kill a commie for your mommy". I still remember the weekly testing of the 'air raid' horns in town... fast forward and then that happens. He had security with uzi's at the ready-- but he was giving a speech for humanitarian aid.

@CCMorgan I remember the Cold War but not that schoolyard chant. I remember Reagan and Gorbachev’s summits.

summersong · F
I danced with Jimmy Fallon to a Tom Waits song in a bar in NYC.
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@summersong That's amazing! I love stories like this 😊
I know I made the concert reference, but I did set up power for Foreigner once. Blues Traveler too... and I am not a 'roadie' lol

I went to college with the late James Gandolfini who played Tony Soprano. I knew him before he was famous
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@chuck7882 That is what I was hoping to hear: knowing someone before they hit it big. Wow!!

Al Michaels asked me for directions on the street once. I've ordered drinks at a bar next to Kate Jackson (original Charlie's Angels) and said hi. Met and chatted with Barack Obama about the Chicago Bears in the 2008 campaign.
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@luckranger71 Wow that is awesome! I loved Charlie's Angels... that must have been something else. And Barack too, very cool indeed 👍
OMG 😍 I always liked that forehead birthmark of Gorbachev. 🤭

My uncle and aunty were VIPs so many VIPs attended my cousins wedding. And I got to meet and greet many political figures at that time. 😉
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@Vivaci My first thought was "Man, he is shorter than I thought he would be," 🤭

That's so cool Viv. Thank you for sharing!
@CCMorgan 😅 really? 🤭 They do look different on camera, don't they?

Yeah, it was jawdropping good to be able to talk to the Ambassador, CM, Mayor etc...🤭

Forever ago when i was 18 my boyfriend (who was 24) took me to meet friends of his in Liverpool. One of the guys was a session musician who had played with a number bands and the other a record producer i had heard of. We watched ' Pop Quiz' on tv and i got more questions right than them. Lol.
I once got talking to a woman in the loo at a gig and we walk back into the hall together. Quite coinsidentally, our fellas were talking to each other. Her husband was Ian McCulloch of Echo and the Bunnymen. He knew my bf through some dodgy pals.....lol.
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@RubySoo Oh wow... that's incredible! I could read these stories all night. Love them... thanks for sharing! 😊👍
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
Had dinner with a member of Monty Python.
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@Harmonium1923 No way(!) How cool was that?!?
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@CCMorgan I gotta be honest—it was pretty amazing!
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@DrWatson 😂😂😂
I had a beer with Bob Hawke (former Australian prime minister) at the Woodford folk festival one year
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@Notladylike That must have been so unreal! Thank you for sharing 😊
I've crossed paths, like in a store or an elevator with a bunch of different celebrities, but its mostly been pretty random.
TexChik · F
@MistyCee prove that statement
@TexChik Why bother with proof with folks that believe in alternate facts?
TexChik · F
@MistyCee True libs never worry about proof, just the seriousness of their charges.

I worked at the first "health spa" ever opened in CA during the 70's, it's where I met Jack LaLanne...I think I spelled his name right?🤔 Then I went to Hollywood with some friends for dinner and met Alan Hales from Gilligan's Island...he was the skipper and had just opened his own restaurant. ⭐It was awesome, the whole place had fishnets and starfish. It had an ocean theme just like the TV show. 🙂💦 He stood outside the restaurant and shook everyone's hand that came in.
I used to work in the same building as Tony Gwynn’s agent, and ran into him occasionally. I also met Alan Hale at his restaurant when I was a kid.

I’m also friends with a few celebrities on Facebook, not following but on their friends list.
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@LeopoldBloom That's pretty cool! I had to look them up, but I watched Gilligan's Island a million times as a kid. Iconic television!
@CCMorgan The Gilligan's Island actors were paid scale, so they earned nothing from the years of syndication following the show's popularity. Hale had to open a restaurant just to earn a living. He didn't have much of a film career after that. However, that had an effect on future actors, who negotiated residuals from reruns. If Hale had that in his contract, he would have been in great shape.

What I remember from that restaurant was a guy who circulated around with a plate of garlic bread. That was the first time I ever had garlic bread, and will never forget how great it was.
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@LeopoldBloom Thank you for sharing. I find this so interesting! Too bad he missed out like that. Those shows finished filming before I was born, but I grew up with them. They played for many years! Funny about the garlic bread too. We had a restaurant where I grew up that has been gone for over 40 years now, that I still remember the pizza from... because it was that great, and I think it was the first I ever had too 😉

I was part of a small group who chatted with and shook hands with Ed Mitchell, who landed on the Moon on Apollo 14. We were college students who were recipients of a scholarship from Grumman Aerospace, who built the lunar landers. We had summer jobs at the company. He came to visit that summer.
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@DrWatson I'm loving these stories. Great! Thank you for sharing. It is so interesting to me...
smiler2012 · 56-60
ccmorgan not to speak to but i have seen jimmy saville in scarborough and frank carson in blackpool both near the towns railway station funnily enough
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
@smiler2012 Awesome! I got to see Michael Douglass when he visited the place where I work... not too close, lol. Still though... he had some big movies at the time.
@CCMorgan awesome? I take it you don’t know who Jimmy Saville was?
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
My husband snuck chili cheese fries up the stairs at NASCAR with Jack Black
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
