I Think Social Media Does More Harm Than Good

Budwick · 70-79, M
I wish I could give this post a hundred thousand hearts.

Social media is the bane of our existence. It is literally destroying society.
monte3 · 70-79, M
Personally I want to go back to party lines and rotary phones.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@monte3 We had to keep butting in cause a couple housewives tied them up all day taking about their soaps
I just wanted to call grandma and tell her Mom was trying to kill me again

Dialing for dollars ,"Do you know where your children are "?

@rckt148 The old phones were so much fun, I would put shaving cream or whipped cream on the ear piece than call the person from a different phone........you wouldn't believe the words.

It’s funny that this is posted on a social media site where we can all agree with it, as we let these things happen to us. I definitely do agree that social media is ruining society. I can take myself away from it and have normal interaction with humans but the biggest concern with social media is the early exposure. Children using social media interferes with development (brain, social etc) and the pressures that teenagers are under now are overwhelming. But yet, people say we are progressing....

@WanderingThrough Where else could he post it and have people see it? Carve it in a tree?
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@acpguy That’s not what I meant, it’s something called ‘irony’...posting about negative affects of social media on social media. I wasn’t being negative at all....I agree with the post.
InvisibleGirl · 18-21, F
As a teenager who has a mom who doesn’t let me have social media, I can 100% agree with this. I don’t have Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook etc (obviously on here secretly but I don’t have the pressures of my peers here) and I can see the difference between me and my friends with social media. I know people who have committed suicide due to cyber bullying, it’s such a toxic thing. This is my addiction and it’s causes me more anxiety than I every imagined. Social media is ABSOLUTELY the death of a somewhat healthy society. Thanks for sharing.

While posting on social media 😂😂😂
I agree tho
acpguy · C
I agree 100%. They claim suicides are up and blame it on the stress of today and veterans. I think they need to look at social media as being the cause but the wealthy liberals that own the sites and the liberal politicians will shoot down any chance of a study like that.

I believe God intended it to spread the Gospel!
InvisibleGirl · 18-21, F
@Carazaa Yeah, I think it can rarely be used in a positive way like that. This whole thread clearly shows how that doesn’t work because I’m not seeing things the same way you are. I liked what you had to say, but wish I saw more of the love of Christ in this. But maybe your gospel is different than mine.
Carazaa · F
@InvisibleGirl

Yes I think we have a different Gospel. One of your groups is you hate people, that is not my Jesus, but I love you anyway. I am here to help people and witness the love of God to people. Some people don't like that and are harassing me to stop. But God says His word will go out, and accomplish much!
InvisibleGirl · 18-21, F
@Carazaa I don’t actually hate anyone, you don’t know the reasons why I joined groups. When I join a group that says ‘I hate people who...’ I mean I hate the thing people do, not the person. I’m also 16, so show a bit of grace please. Maybe your God doesn’t allow for grace? You’re not helping anyone by your attitude. You come across on this thread as rude and threatening. I don’t see anything here that told you to stop sharing the gospel, no one here is saying or has said that. All I see is that someone has a different opinion than you on how effective it is online. That’s ok. Keep doing your thing, but you should be able to respect that people aren’t going to agree 100% on everything and something as trivial as this, that has no bearing on salvation, really should not push you to the place to be as rude as you were. I know the God I serve would be disappointed in how you just shoved a person away like that. You basically told her she’s not worth your time, that’s not the God I know.

Is social media the problem?
Or are humans the problem?
Or are they both problematic?

It always amazes me how much people like to blame the negative effects of their choices, outside themselves. As if the individual and how the individual functions inside a social framework, has verry little (or nothing) to do with the effects that comes with the choices they make?

I always find it a bit ironic when folks post about the ills of social media—via social media. 😏
