How accurate do you think COVID-19 statistics are?

4meAndyouF
They say that 80% of our population is either infected, or WILL BECOME infected. But in most cases, symptoms are either non-existent, mild, or the people infected can recover fully.

They say that if we do everything as instructed by the CDC strictly and carefully, our hospitals will be able to handle the overload. Even if we are very, very careful, it is remotely possible that 100,000 people will die.

If we are ALL stupid or even HALF of us are stupid, and we run around touching everyone and everything, and coughing and sneezing all over everyone, and don't clean things with bleach and water, and keep travelling on the subway and going to Mardi Gras and traveling all over the United States, then we have the potential for up to one million deaths.
Anyone that dies in this time period.. even if it鈥檚 from a heart attack.. will be attributed to Coronas..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Not here. There was a case of death of a patient tested positive but she probably died for a different reason.
Mugin1646-50, M
They are not very accurate. Everybody knows that cases numbers are far too low because a) most people are not being tested and b) many people who got the virus have either no or only mild symptoms. Also, with so many institutions, organisations and agencies being involved in many different countries and regions, it is not easy to get the right numbers.
CrazyMusicLover31-35
@Mugin16 I only check out death tolls, actually. Total cases are untrackable.
Mamapolo2016F
That's true everywhere. And the statistics of infection are way way low, I think. The statistics of hospitalization and deaths are probably much closer to true - unless the government of a country has reason and the ability to be creative about what they report. Like China.
Zaphod4246-50, M
@Mamapolo2016 I dont know if things have changed, but early on all US coronavirus statistics were labeled as classified information and only released with WH approval, but I鈥檇 be willing to bet we鈥檙e still not getting all the info.
Mamapolo2016F
@Zaphod42 That's possibly true. And I don't know that it actually matters.

If a person hasn't gotten the trajectory of this yet, no amount of bleak statistics could convince them. And a good many haven't.
Gusman61-69, M
The response to that Meme is we do not know the total percentage of the population that has the Virus because the whole population has not and can never be tested.
CrazyMusicLover31-35
@Gusman No it can't. There's no way we could have 100% accuracy. But numbers from some countries seem more believable than from others. I think there should be stated how many tests were done along with how many people were tested positive.

@CrazyMusicLover This was from 2 days ago.

I saw a figure yesterday of 34,000 Deaths
SW-User
The numbers of deaths are accurate in my state but cases of the virus are probably higher as those with mild symptoms might not know that they had it.
CrazyMusicLover31-35
@SW-User Yes, it's impossible to test all with numbers of test kits per country. But they don't even test people who might be infected secondary here even though they have all symptoms and people close to them got sick as well.
SW-User
I'm one of those that think I had it around March 11 or earlier. I never got tested but stayed home.@CrazyMusicLover
CierzoM
Every country is lying. They do not do enough tests. Some countries like France just count as coronavirus casualties those dying in hospitals, not home or in and old folks home.
If the media told everyone to change their names to Susan.. we鈥檇 have a fuckload of Susans running around...
@LeopoldBloom the old trump trump trump.. you got trump on your brain 25-7.. and that pleases me 馃榾

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout As long as he鈥檚 the president, he will keep doing damage. As soon as his ass is in prison, I will never mention him again.
CrazyMusicLover31-35
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Lol man... what did some Susan do to you? 馃槀
cherokeepatti61-69, F
I don鈥檛 know. Reports of 5 who have died in my city but names are not mentioned in news reports or the local newspaper obituaries.
a 94 year old woman died Friday and covid19 wasn't confirmed until last night. statistics are days behind at best
Keepitsimple51-55, F
I think they are way behind. By the time it gets to where it gets counted it鈥檚 probably days behind.
Elessar26-30, M
Once the hospitals get overwhelmed you know you can't keep not testing anymore.
CrazyMusicLover31-35
@Elessar That is true.
wildbill8336-40, M
about as accurate as 2016 election predictions... 馃
OkieNTheHouse22-25, M
Don't care how potentially dangerous this virus is. The media hysteria is what is driving people and causing most of the problems we have now. There is no denying that. But the media has such a grip on society and some people just refuse to educate themselves on their own.
