I Support All Military Soldiers

I'm not saying I don't in any way (decisions putting them in harm's way sometimes, certainly are open to criticism, but that's no reason not to support the men and women who actually go there)

But I AM wondering what kind of non-military soldiers there are marching about anywhere?

I served 2 years on active duty on the Navy as a physician. I was a pediatrician, and, cared for the dependents of the active duty military.

@samueltyler2 Bless you. That's so often forgotten I think, the duty of care the military has for those left at home :)

@Murmurs I was not "at home," but at an overseas installation. I was lucky enough to be allowed to have my wife with me. But it was during NG Viet Nam and I felt somewhat guilty about the war, and we were very isolated. Only one TV station, the Armed for es tv, no internet at that time, and expensive, and difficult to arrange, calls home.

Thanks, on this Memorial Day in the US we don't just BBQ, we give thanks to those who were sacrificed to wars that have kept us free.

Well said, I wasn't a soldier, but a sailor in the Royal navy, it meant a great deal to all of us that the british people supported us and cared a great deal about us both as ship companies and as individuals. When HMS Sheffield was sunk and other ships, the support from those at home helped us in this trying time

It would be nice to see posts like this about people in the medical profession, who save lives rather than take them away.
Murmurs · 31-35, F
@TheCensoredBrot A quick search and I'm not even sure SW has such a group (but a lot of 'I don't trust doctors...' type ones). Of course that might be that because the medical profession's default position is to save lives which is inherently seen as good and positive; while soldiers tend to do the opposite (along with responses to widespread emergencies etc of course), which is usually more divisive?

@UpsideOutInsideDown Britain produces the best soldiers in the world...

We make armies out of bread!
UpsideOutInsideDown · 36-40, M
@Murmurs Absolutely. It made one hell of an empire. Well, that and colonisation...but it was mostly our bread troops

I guess the armed forces employ non combat staff who never visit a hostile area.
