I Think Indoctrinating Children With Religion Is Child Abuse

A christian claims to be a "trained scientist" and a "qualified theologian" yet repeatedly demonstrates a profound ignorance of both subjects. When asked to present evidence for his "god hypothesis" he can only respond with childish insults. He claims he is right because anyone who doesn't agree with him is an idiot. :)

Now, having run out of even childish insults and unable to answer valid points rationally, he's reduced to deleting opponents' replies. I suppose such childish behaviour is only to be expected from a senile old man.

I wouldn't say it is child abuse to raise your kids on your beliefs. My parents are Christian and raised my 3 brothers and myself to be Christians and we were all perfectly fine. When you are a kid it is nice to believe in some of that stuff anyway..
what I think is bad parenting though is when your kids get older that you still force it onto them and make them feel if you don't believe in that religion that you will be disowned or whatever.. people should be free to believe what they want if it isn't hurting anyone..

im very thankful that my parents accepted that I don't believe in that stuff and let me free to believe in whatever I believe in... so I disagree and agree with you to a certain degree
It's not supposed to be about the control. That's how people twist it. I don't believe in spanking, or saying "God will punish you" and I think many assumptions are made on both parts. So... Its supposed to be about a love so true, so committed, you feel reverence inside. God is fearsome, and awesome, and holy, and to be holy we are asked to know him personally. He believes we're worth it. God is love, love, love. Faith, hope, and love. Especially love. If you want to know about this stuff, there are resources.

I'm glad your children are safe in a loving home, @suzie1960. I've never thought being an athiest meant you didn't raise your children with love, intention and spirited learning. I thought that was based on being a decent person, and a loving parent. I'm glad you are that. 🤗 Those lil angels are our future. @suzie1960

@KayraJordyn I'm not really concerned with what you think christianity is supposed to be, I'm more concerned with what it actually is.

I was a christian when I was younger but since breaking away from it I've been able to see how it adversely affects people. It's difficult to see that when you're part of it. Like you, I thought it was all about love but I was wrong, it's really all about control. I hope, one day, you'll see that too but, if you're happy living in that environment, that's fine.
Susie, I think you're well intended. Still, you don't know my story, and I would never presume to know yours. I could never imagine it, and you could never know mine without knowing me. Any discussion is welcome.

Ah yes... I blocked him the other day after an altercation.

The guy is nothing more than a troll.
So you won't acknowledge what I asked, and meant. Awesome.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@KayraJordyn I'm not sure what you really meant.
Your sarcasm belittles You!
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@KayraJordyn
This is gross, dramatic, wrong, and ridiculous.
I don't know about the US but here in the UK I've found christians try to force their beliefs onto others, often using threats, intimidation and even violence to do so.

Most definitely. He claims in several posts to be a strong supporter of freedom of speech too - clearly not true if he deletes posts too difficult for him to challenge!

And, yes, the level of his argument appears to be childish insults only. Using logic and reason is clearly beyond him.
rob19 · M
@fazer1k Xtians only support freedom of speech and religion for themselves.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@rob19 If SW is anything to go by that does often seem to be the case.

He was so protective of his beliefs that he started deleting questions. I think the uncool thing was name calling but the worst was calling Bertrand Russell, one of the greatest thinkers ever, childish. You don't get to call Bert Russell childish if you believe in virgin birth and a God who needs to be a gender without having a female counterpart :D

Organised religious groups of every denomination, creed or culture, are self serving money grabbers. Their sole aim in indoctrinating kids is to keep their religion going. Trying to ensure that their ideology does not die out.
To do that they will lie and scheme, mainly using mental frighteners, to keep members allegiance to their particular doctrine.
In doing this they encourage the development of religious fundamentalists to push for their particular religions recognition, and self promotion.
Because of their dangerous practices of ramming their ideology down young peoples throats, they create monsters, who are responsible for the vast majority of armed conflict, causing deaths and misery, on our planet.☹

@KayraJordyn I am not quite sure what you consider is 'icky', but the truth is often unpalatable, if you don't like it?
I am acutely aware that lumping an entire faith, the most prominent faith on the globe, together, into the trash bin of beings who so obviously "knowingly, intentionally, intent on money-grubbing, indoctrinating, lying, scheming, being dangerous self-promoters, and people who cause death and misery" is icky. Not even almost accurate.

Cults have this effect, often.

Not every faith runs like a cult. Some even promote love and hope. Healing.

Weird, huh?

I don't know what you're so angry about, but I hope you find out and feel relief soon. @uknaked

With faith and hope,

Kayra

@KayraJordyn You have my sympathy for having been brainwashed into your "faith", I was not referring to any one organised religious grouping, I was referring to every organised religious group on earth.
I am not angry, I am realistic. The vast majority of deadly conflicts, in the world we live in, are a result of conflicts of religious indoctrination. My complaint is about the complete lack of activity, by religious leaders, to correct and stop creating this religious conflict.
They should be teaching the fact that we all share one planet, and the religions are of a similar base, and doing what they can to stop religious fundamentalism, instead they stand by and make platitudes of little effect.
I am fully aware that for millions of believers, religious belief helps them in their lives, but my complaint is about the religious leaders who are more interested in protecting their empires and doctrines, than protecting innocent people.
I trust that this makes my position clearer.

What are you afraid of. The fear of god. Why does it bother you
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ChairmanofthePool Is it rational to risk being denied entry to Valhalla or Fólkvangr or Sto'vo'kor or any of the many other realms of the dead for worshiping the wrong god?
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@suzie1960 Ultimately everyone is going to a hell for not believing in someone's god/gods, lol
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical Good point.

Wait, is he that AlexanderSuperTramp looney? The only Christian and comic book scientist I can think of here.

@fazer1k And now he's wearing a suit and combs his hair to look more intelligent. I blocked his Truman account ages ago, but now he's back with another. Maybe he got banned, but you know what, he's not done making a fool of himself.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@SW-User I'm not sure we're talking about the same person. The one I'm referring to doesn't appear to have changed his profile picture.

@suzie1960 Ah okay, no worries. Both sound equally miserable. I'm sure if they fine each other they will be best buddies.
