I get really annoyed when people bring up politics on unrelated threads

I know I'm gonna stir up the hornet's nest with this one and I'm generally ok with Americans as a whole, however this one thing always irks me so badly. For some reason no matter what the discussion is about some people will always mention Trump or Obama or I don't know who, even if the topic has absolutely nothing to do with anything political, like this other day when I saw a post on facebook " what shows that a man has insecurities " and so many people said things like "wearing a MAGA hat", "voting for Trump" it's just so annoying how some people are so obsessed with this. Does anyone else feel that way?

I'm very political and even I fucking hate that. I'll make a post about sports or music or video games or the fucking weather and I'll get someone wanting to tie it to politics somehow.
DrSunnyTheSkeptic · 26-30, M
@CrustyDDingus Well, most things out there are tailored for windows, so the general consumer uses that and for average users Linux is not recommended, obviously it's better since you can tailor it to the way you want but most people dont have the interest or capacity for that.

Well, I see this all the time and not just here on SW. I will not mention a party, a political ideology or name because I believe it is about something MUCH MORE IMPORTANT to us all...the ability to think for ourselves.

We have become a pretty unthinking, follow the leader type of society. We have been told what to do, what is and what to believe. Without questioning it; we do it. (go ahead and quote a news media source that this is not true...😳)

Just imagine for a moment, isn't our anger hurting us, keeping us from seeing the truth and questioning the very things that others are trying to point out to us????

I think this is where the right or left sides come into play; they call it
"identity politics" and they play one side against the other...
being the THIRD or tie breaking voice, the government or powers that be,
let us fight against each other and they win. We lose. All of us.

Now PLEASE go ahead and make this political; it will only prove my point.
*off soapbox* Thank you.

We’re a democratic country where people are convinced that their opinion matters more than it does. So this problem is the consequence of that.
DrSunnyTheSkeptic · 26-30, M
@Reject That is understandable, posts do ask for opinion but using unrelated topics to have a petty swing at political opponents seems so lowly... worst part, if you question this act they immediately assume you're a supporter of their opposing side.
Reject · 26-30, M
@DrSunnyTheSkeptic It is lowly, and people might see how low it is if they weren’t elevating their opinions so much. It doesn’t matter how irrelevant the political comment is if they think it’s more important than the subject at hand.

Yes, I agree.
Even soft drinks and sporting events have been dragged into politics.

I was going to make a joke and though there are things that frustrate me on political posts already, this makes absolutely no sense to me. Sometimes people are just people who made different decisions hoping to get the best results.
I am so tired of all of this.

@mondayschild2 Same. #jaded
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
yes, its very annoying and also makes them look unintelligent, like there is no other possible analogy in their brains then the politics with which the media has brainwashed them. its kind of sad.
@reflectingmonkey Good points; and believing what the media says and not questioning anything. That makes someone appear and act thoughtless to me.
This is where, instead of that thought being processed, it TRIGGERS some to "go to" politics to dismiss it...like:

"Republicans believe in conspiracy theories
and all good libs and progressives know that the NEWS on tv is real
and there are NO lies presented at all".

When we (if not mature and self aware enough) get "triggered" and exhibit nasty retorts, angry denial and name calling toward comments from the "other side"
because we are experiencing a massive cognitive dissonance in their view of the world. And without thinking logically about it, we try to defend our stance.
Piper · 61-69, F
I find that very annoying, also. Some people have always done that, since I first joined a similar site 10 years ago.
@Piper some people just don't want to think differently and would rather curse at those who suggest that they at least try.
Piper · 61-69, F
@MsAlaineEYes Yeah, I've noticed that. I figure most people don't much like having it suggested that they think differently, whether they 'curse' at the one suggesting it...or not.

Ikr screw politics if we have you outfit
just like the $unliked_party! they do that all the time! robble robble. the joke being that both/they all do.

I am American and not fond of that myself
I agree. Politics should stay in politics.
Biden made it a law of SW...

@RogueLoner Lol. Labeling is always the first defense of immature minds.
Self respect is a rare commodity. #vulgarity
