I Think Wild Animals Should Stay As Wild Animals

I live in Egypt! Two years ago my daughter and I were shopping at the mall. As we were leaving, an owl in a cage at the pet store caught our attention. How miserable it looked. The cage was just a bit larger than the owl.

Animal actvists in egypt have been telling the public not to buy these poor caged animals so as to discourage pet shops from selling them. However, we bought the owl!

I just mentioned this because a few minutes ago I was on my roof, enjoying the evening weather . I heard an owl in the distance. I hear it quite often. Then it flew over my balcony still making that owl sound! 😁 Is this the owl we bought and freed? I’d like to think so. Just the feeling We gave it freedom and the sound of freedom it let out, felt amazing. ❤️

Ha! It is about time, I guess! As animal rights in Egypt are almost non existent. Stray dogs were being shot or poisoned and it is all legal - The hate environment for dogs which comes from religious background helped with that happening too. That's of course a part from the many animals that would die in shops out of the bad conditions they were made to live in! It is really about time Egypt takes a long, hard look at animal rights in the country.

Or human rights for that matter!

@Seetie Obsessed with exposing lies and hateful teachings, indeed I am ;)

Now it’s time for a relaxing evening under the stars hoping to hear from the owl again. Then time for bed.

Good night

😘

@Seetie I have no interest in your daily routine really 🥱

Kinda sounds like you helped fund an industry that abuses animals, though. When you buy the owls, that gives them an incentive to breed more of them. You'll free one, but enslave another, in theory.

Yes. That is what activist here warn us against. I just couldn’t go without letting it free. I passed recently and did not find more owls. I do hope activists are taking action against these pet shops @BlueVeins

God bless you for doing so. What a lovely story.

That's such a good story. I bet your daughter will remember it every time she hears an owl forever.💕

Yes, the day we let it free, the whole family gathered for the event! We opened the cage and watched it step out. It stood for a few minutes in place and then flew to the roof of a neighboring building. It Stood for a while looking around, maybe at us clapping. 😄 @EmilyEdith

My story happened 2 years ago.

Today I came across an article dated January 2020.

Thanks to the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, I don’t think I’ll be coming across any caged owls again. ❤️🙏

Thanks to activists as well who will be keeping a watch on pet shops. 😉

Change can happen if you are proactive!

Nice work.

I think it's a terrible shame when wild animals are kept as pets. They're not equipped to live that kind of life and all too often it ends badly for them.

Wild animals should be left in their own habitats
..stupid selfish humans don't deserve these beautiful animals

I tend to agree, although, my love of animals developed because of seeing them in zoos.

I know zoos can be problematic but i think it's a little different than keeping wild animals as pets.
At least in zoos (good zoos anyway) they're equipped to give the animal more or less what it needs to lead a good life.

If you love something let it go.
If you meet it again you know it loves you back.

That is a lovely thing you did. There is something about caged birds that is so upsetting.

It is a warming thought that the owl flew over your balcony to say hello

Yes !!! I once saved a bird. I was only 13 at the time. It must have fallen from its nest. . I took care of it for a month, I left it free in my room. After a month I let it go. Miraculously, a few weeks later I was playing with my friends in the garden, my bird came back and started circling around my head. I know it’s hard to believe. ❤️❤️❤️ @InOtterWords
@Seetie I am constantly saving birds from my cat ... who by the way I saved from being a feral stray
