I Think Age Is Only A Number

[big]Omg no!!! [/big]

Age matters. Did any of you watch the Bachelor tonight? Bekah finally told us how old she is. 22. Yup, 22 years old.

And Arie (remember him?) is 36. Yup, 14 years older than her.

So when she revealed her age, he realized how silly it was and sent her home, right? Nope!!! He talked about how he sees the possibility of a real future with her!

What do you think? Is age just a number? Or does it matter?
Nat15 · F
I don't think age matters as long as you have common goals and stuff. I think the younger person has to be more mature than their age and the older one has to still be young at heart.

Btw, that girl is cuuuuute! <3
Nat15 · F
I would apply!!! :P @IAmJess
@Nat15 Me too! Hmm 🤔 I wonder if she'd be allowed to pick us both! 😳😏
Nat15 · F
@IAmJess I say yes!!!! 😏
lesbgirl · 26-30, F
Age doesn’t matter when there is chemistry and both partners are mature enough to decide for themselves
I'm not going to quote the things you've told me in private but before you go quoting bible stuff at me, you should sit with a priest or minister or someone and talk with them about the stuff you've told me.

Whether I'm dating anyone or not, guy or girl, is quite literally none of your fucking business.

You've twice now called me promiscuous when that could not be further from the truth. Now you throw all this bible stuff in my face! You need to seriously spend some time cleaning up your own personal life before you start attacking other people.

Just go away.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@IAmJess I never called you promiscuous dear...he was by calling you a slut...and he thinks that’s good...
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@IAmJess from what I know of you, you’re exceptionally far from promiscuous, I was simply referencing him calling you a slut. You’ve misunderstood what I was saying.
I feel like today that's normal. I wouldn't at 22 because for me I wouldn't be comfortable with it and my dad would kick my ass grown or not lol but everyone's different I guess. As long as your happy?
@Goldengirl22 Omg yeah, I didn't even think about my dad when I posted this. If I came home with someone 14 years older than me, my dad would not only kick my ass but the guy's too!
Mysteriousliaisons · 56-60, M
Closer in age offers more in common I think ☺
plus enter the fact of aging ,may not such a big difference now but what about when she’s 36 and he’s 50 🤔
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@IAmJess not at all, those are things I find appealing, but nothing is more appealing than deep love and intimacy, and if it's lasted that long I know that those things would be there. At that point nothing less than infidelity would make me end it.
@th3r0n Well hopefully the deep love and intimacy come before the innocence fades.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@IAmJess I'm a very affectionate and loving person, if that hasn't developed in a few months of dating, she's probably not someone I would want to continue that relationship with.
Miram · 31-35, F
Most 21 somethings are still teens. But I think it's then when many start an independent life and therefore should be accountable for their own decisions.

I am not comfortable with most age gap relationships because I usually can see manipulative patterns. One personality, needs and future plans overriding the other and it's usually the one who has most experience in relationships.

But in the western context, people have access to resources that can help them break away from abuse.
That is not the case in some eastern societies. Once you choose to marry the wrong guy, you are better off dead and you will wish death multiple times. You will lose everything , dignity and individualism included.
MikeSp · 56-60, M
I don't watch the show, but damn, she is a pretty girl.
I think the age gap is less important than the maturity of both people. I've known several gapped couples and they are still together.
A belated Happy Birthday to you.
@MikeSp First, thank you! It's good to be 18.
And yeah, she is drop dead gorgeous if you ask me!
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
at your age yes age matters more, at least it did to me when I was that age because So many things happen around your age, driving, graduating, voting, drinking, becoming legally an adult.

when you get to even my age you have experienced all that, everyone has, and things aren't so tied to your age, making age a less important factor
@RoxClymer Totally agree with all that. But she's 22 so she's pretty close to my age.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
@IAmJess 22, so on the high end of the age group and probably already experience most or all of the items listed so some of those things may be "old hat" to her, been there done that, ready to move on
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
an example- because of my medical issues, I was making life sustaining/altering decisions by the time I was 16, by the time I was 22 I had moved 5,000 miles away from Home, by 25 I was in a career a by 30 was back making life altering decisions because a dr almost killed me

you can do a lot of living in a relatively short time
Sithlizard · 51-55, M
It depends on the individuals. I dated someone that was 24 years younger than me, and she had more maturity than some of the women I dated that were my age.
@th3r0n Not ever happening.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@IAmJess not me I’m sure, but what if a guy older than me was good looking and every last thing you wanted?
@th3r0n Like I said, not ever happening.
The whole Bachelor thing is pretty depraved regardless of the age difference.
@Miram Agreed, but I still watch it.
@Miram How could providing a random dude with a Whitman Sampler of women and putting the act of him sampling and finding his favorite girl-candy on TV be degrading? I just can't see it. meditates deeply
@CopperCicada Lol, yup.
drymer · 56-60, M
To each their own... I don't get why people get so outraged when "others" are in relationships with big age gaps... I get that some people freak out at the thought of *themselves* dating someone with a big age difference, but why do they care about other's adult, consensual relationships... Some people like same sex, other people are grossed out by the thought of a same sex relationship... Yet, no one these days would DARE to say the feel grossed out by the idea of a "same sex" relationship... But it seems to be OK to voice displeasure and total outrage at big age-gap relationships... ? Why...? Why do people care, really...?
🤔
@drymer Pretty sure I didn't express any outrage here and I certainly didn't say anything about being grossed out (I'm not).

I simply said that in my opinion their "relationship" was silly and asked for other opinions.

And btw, yes, I have heard LGBTQ stuff referred to as gross before.
TightyWhiteyKing · 26-30, M
I think after 21 it doesn't matter. Personally unless your with a lover and you "celebrate"
@th3r0n Well he finally sent her home tonight!
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@IAmJess what a mistake, he will be regretting not going for the hot young girl for the rest of his life hahaha
@th3r0n I doubt that. He has some beautiful womenleft.
mathsman · 70-79, M
Ah. 14 years at that age seems significant.
But many years on, it matters so much less
@mathsman In your vast years of experience, have you ever known a young hottie (25 or less) to marry and old guy (50 or over) who lived in a trailer and was broke?
mathsman · 70-79, M
@IAmJess That's on TV, not reality.
It's made to provoke you - it succeeded, lol
@mathsman No, I'm asking you in your vast years of real life, have you ever seen it? Have you ever seen a young hottie (25 or less) marry and old guy (50 or over) who lived in a trailer and was broke?
MikeSp · 56-60, M
A fascinating story is when the inventor of the Nautilus Machines married a girl 37 years younger than he. On Feb. 24, 1981, Arthur Jones took Terri Brantner as his bride in a spur-of-the-moment ceremony at a Las Vegas wedding chapel. She was 18. He was 55. They went on to develop an upscale residential airpark called Jumbolair near Ocala, FL. They divorced after 8 years.
@MikeSp Ummm, okay.
FOUR23RD · M
numbers are use only on mathematics equations and business , not to be applied on measuring the likeness on 2 opposite sex individuals. i agree with you just numbers
@FOUR23RD Sorry, no, not at all. But nice try.

Everyone is entitled to their preferences. If you preferred blondes, I would not call you prejudicial or disrespectful. I might roll my eyes at you, but your preferences are yours and yours alone.

All I am saying here is that I find it silly, based on my (obvious) preferences, that Arie pretended for so long to be seriously interested in Bekah. She's gorgeous for sure, but she and he were very obviously in very different places in life and had no shot. If you watch the show, then you now know that I've been proven right in this case.
FOUR23RD · M
@IAmJess excellent narrative and very eloquent Iam impressed
@FOUR23RD Huh? Ummm ... okay.
14 is not so large of a gap
@BiasForAction I think it depends where you are, right?

I mean 30 and 44 might not be such a big gap. But I just turned 18 a couple weeks ago. Dating someone 32 would be crazy.
I was assuming over 25
@BiasForAction But on the show the girl is 22. I think that's still maybe a bit young to be going for a 14 year gap!
ticklerguy · M
Love and friendship Know No Age
@ticklerguy To some people...
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
with all this love talk then suddenly people filter it out with nonsense.

the world doesn't want love it wants to be a jerkola.

priorities.
@th3r0n Isn't she a bit too old for you?? 😂😂😂
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@IAmJess lmao what a bratty thing to say, I'm down for most women 25 and under, and a rare few even older than me.
@th3r0n Yeah, I'm pretty much down for peeps 20 and under. 😁
I think it really depends on the individuals. Some girls are mature at 22 and ready to settle down. Just because there is an age gap doesn't mean people are being manipulated
@downunderguy Have you seen the show? Do you think Bekah is ready to settle down?? 😂😂😂 Don't get me wrong, love the girl and totally on Team Bekah, but she's not settling down any time soon.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
If they're both comfortable with the age gap, then it's fine. They are adults, after all.
@Rutterman Of course. They have the right to do whatever they want. I'm just commenting on how silly it all seems to me.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@IAmJess That's fine, but I've noticed people mostly have a problem with it when it's an older man and a younger woman. When it's the opposite arrangement, there seems to be little criticism of it. Not sure what accounts for this double standard. Please understand that I'm not suggesting you're guilty of this. It's just a general observation.
@Rutterman Hmm, can't say that I've noticed the double standard myself. I will say that, personally, I think the older woman/younger guy thing is even more absurd. We have one neighbor here who is divorced and she is dating a guy who is literally younger than her son. I don't get it. Idk, maybe someday I will. Right now I just can't see it.
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
so?

it won't work out not because of age but he's a neurotic pos.
@sighmeupforthat Lol yeah, well that certainly appears true as well! 😂
FOUR23RD · M
numbers are for measurements for value informative matters
@FOUR23RD You repeating the same comment all over again? Do you want to have the same conversation??
th3r0n · 41-45, M
Well you already know this but I really like younger women lol
@th3r0n Yes, I already know that.
There are people who would get involved with minors if they didn’t have to worry about the law. So they pat themselves on the back for waiting until she’s 18 or 21.
Miram · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard

Many find an excuse in limiting the definition of right and wrong to terms of legal and illegal.
@bijouxbroussard I think you are 100% right in that. So sad.
SW-User
SW-User
@IAmJess yes and 17 yrs younger.
@SW-User How old were you when you dated the 15+ year older person? And how old were you when you dated the 17 year younger person?

I'm just trying to make sense of all this.
SW-User
@IAmJess 20 for the older one and 38 for the younger.
mathsman · 70-79, M
@mathsman On what?
mathsman · 70-79, M
@IAmJess If anyone minds
Goralski · 51-55, M
Hmmmmmm or like d movie hard candy
Chickie · F
It doesn't matter they are both adults people should mind their business
@Chickie Yup, I get that. And if they are happy and end up together then more power to them. I'm just saying it looks a little silly to me right now. That's all.
