So...serious question ...please keep scrolling if you are easily offended [I Dont Like Small Talk]

I wonder how I am or anyone for that matter can trust or believe anything written in the bible when it was written by the hands of man ...humans hearts are wicked and lie by it's very nature . How can anyone trust it ? It's not as if God himself wrote these words. I am not asking this to ruffle any feathers ,I am just looking for insight .Just trying to make sense of things that make no sense to me.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
Your instincts are correct, you can't. It's just a book written by religious zealots. It has common sense as well as bizarre nonsense in it.
Lynda70 · F
@Carazaa
It is accurate and the most respected and most read book in the world.
You obviously haven't read it or, if you have, you don't understand it. It's full of factual inaccuracies and contradictions.
Carazaa · F
@Lynda70 No you are not correct.
Lynda70 · F
@Carazaa You're wrong about that. I spent a lot of time studying the bible so I know I am correct. The evidence is clear to anyone who care to check and supports what I say. By denying it, you only confirm thaat you either haven't read it or you don't understand it.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
The Bible is a load of crap written by some dudes who want you to feel bad about being human so you will give them money and the power to tell you what to do so they don't have to work for a living. And in all my 71 years I have never noticed Christianity has anything to do with the teachings of Jesus. It is all about fear, hate, and feeling superior to others.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
You missed the point that it is not only the people who wrote the Bible but also those who read the Bible. Both have to be under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
@hippyjoe1955 I avoid posts like this, an exercise in FUTILITY.

I'm lonely enough already.

@SW-User
I sense he wants me to go to him but I'm like this stubborn and angry child who won't listen to their Father
Your senses are good. I believe that there are also dark forces pulling you away. Satan is fighting for your soul.

Pray Handmade - pray for strength and for the Holy Spirit to fill you - your torment will end.

I will pray for your success.
@hippyjoe1955 Maybe. But that doesn't explain the Apocrypha. My favorite bible is KJV - it reads like Shakespeare. But it included fifteen books now thought to be "spurious" or "not the real word of God." Here's a link: https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Apocrypha-Books/
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
The Bible was written by people who didn't even live in Jesus's era. There is a brilliant channel on YouTube that digs into abrahamic religions from the perspective of searching for the truth. The name is "blogging theology" and it has really helped clear a lot of my confusions.
Spoiler: the Bible is inaccurate.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@assemblingaknob Apology gladly accepted. I much prefer friendly discussion to anger and insults.

@hippyjoe1955 I just want to say that I am loving seeing people talk about this respectfully on here ❤️

"It’s not the parts of the bible I don’t understand that bother me; it’s the parts I do understand.” - Mark Twain
Carazaa · F
@BlueSkyKing Like I said, people hate to hear that God is upset that we don't listen to him.
I asked a pastor this very question, i was told that while yes, it was written by man it was inspired by God. This lead to my next question, while God is (according to the Bible) infallible man is not, so is it not possible that man got things wrong? The pastor did not have a very satisfactory answer for this.
SW-User
@istillhaveanameitsrick could be fun to read for a giggle
Carazaa · F
@SW-User @istillhaveanameitsrick Here is an intelligent pastor from Canada that has figured out some unbelievable time markers that relates to our time now and the Jews History. He has studied the Bible his whole life and found these numbers out and he is not saying that Jesus will definitely come in 2023 or the rapture will happen then but listen to all the codes he figured out!

Lynda70 · F
@istillhaveanameitsrick
"The Bible for Dummies" i wouldn't vouch for it's accuracy
It's probably just as accurate as any other version.
ABCDEF7 · M
When you believe something you assume few thing to be true without asking for evidence. This is how this system works. If you can't follow this system then you need to take a different path.
Carazaa · F
@ABCDEF7 God is not your puppet!
ABCDEF7 · M
@Carazaa Ok, can you pray him/her to call me? You know what will happen.

Truth is god doesn't exist in reality, it's your illusion/imagination/thoughts/belief, not a reality. You want to live with that? live..

@Carazaa
Some believe ni superstisions because they don't know Jesus!
Just as some believe in Jesus because they haven't learned about other gods.
Carazaa · F
Weve gone over this many times on SW and I have a post on my profile how I know the Bible is true. But here are a few reasons how we know.

1.There are people who have dedicated their whole lives to this question, me foreinstance for over 40 years now. The prophesies are very specific and detailed and they have all come true. The most important timestamp is the history of the Jews. NO WAY can their history be fortold thousands of years before if it was not written by Gods inspiration word for word. Every day we notice another prophesy coming true. God said he would scatter the Jews if they went after other gods. He scattered them all over the world. He said they would get killed by other nations and they have. He said he would himself give them back their land in Israel, he did. He said that surrounding nations would attack in the last days and they are. And the very year Jesus would come the first time etc etc. Impossible that over 1000 prophesies come true so specifically, no way!!!

2. God changes lives

3. This book, the Bible tells people the truth, that we are wicked and not as good as we would like to think so therefore people hate it. But I would rather know the truth then read fiction that just makes me feel good. I want to know the truth. The truth is we are sinners and God is mad. But he made an out and he came to take our sins on his shoulders so we can communicate with him again. That is amazing!
Sarabee · 41-45
😰I would be a poor witness if I didn't tell you
The bible is truly written by God's
When will you be inspired
66 menwrote the bible
They were all of one spirit and it took over 100 years to write
Just prove the Bible and it will stand fast!
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
this is a good point that's why you really have to educate yourself on what you are studying and it's also notable to be aware that there were books that were even removed from the bible.

but i look at the bible more as a religious-historical text in which describes humanity's origin. I like to really apply the parts to my life where the new testament the apostles wrote about their personal relationship with jesus and wrote about his teachings and life. jesus basically teaches you everything you need to know (in the new testament)
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@DeluxedEdition When the Biblical canon was set there was great discussion as to which books should be included. By unanimous vote the ones we have were accepted. The others were not removed. They were never included.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 you have no idea how long i have been looking for this answer to my longing question. thank you so much

This is how I interpret any 'wise words' from anywhere.
How does this make me feel personally? Does it bring love or fear? Does it bring separation or oneness? Does it tell me I am better than those who choose a different path? - Etc.
If it is fear and separation and superiority or any such - I discard it.

I am just trying to understand you when you wrote this, it seems you said two things.
1. your own feelings are your measuring stick.
2. And you are judging the Bible and discard it because it brings fear ( God intends to bring us to truth, he says "I am a consuming fire"" and Jesus says "[c=BF0000]I did not come to bring peace but a sword". [/c]) So you will dismiss it even if it is the truth?

Let me ask you something. If there is a fire nextdoor, and I knock on your door and yell "there is a fire next door." Do I care about you or not?
SW-User
@Carazaa

My intuition is a measuring stick, yes. To me, what people call God, is love. Not fear.

I don't follow any religion, that doesnt mean I am judging the bible or any other book. I don't think any religion or religious book is superior to another either. What you interpret here is you personalising it and getting defensive about what you believe in because someone else doesn't.

Jesus's words were interpreted by man and written by man. There is no guarantee this man didn't twist it by his perception.

Let me tell you one thing. If there is a fire next door, you will not personally come to knock on my door. You will stand on the street in a safe place and scream fire.

I don't know why it matters so much to you what I believe in. I'm not concerned with your beliefs, why are you with mine?
Carazaa · F
@SW-User I would not stand and yell fire I would knock on your door. Why am I concerned about you and your belief? Because I know the truth and I care about you.
SWeeps don't know enough to start talking about "God, man and the mystery of evil in the world and why its all the way it is".

We don't know enough and so when this subject comes back again and again it feels like leapfrogging...and it feels INAUTHENTIC.

And idiotic. Any day of the week.

If we believe fine, if not fine, if we believe other stuff we can hash it out here.

Does any of this blabber end up meanig anything though?

Its not a serious site and Biblical scholars and professional anthropologists and authors in the human endeavor... don't bother writing posts here.

And the range of topics on SW is alarmingly narrow. So hence the obsession with either religion or atheism. Its embarassingly boring to me though. Its not that we are burning with the need to know. Maybe we just wanna impress someone. But my advice is save it.
SW-User
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Elevatorpitches You have a point there - you won't find much serious, thoughtful and civilised debate on SW, as indeed some of the aggressive responses already on this thread show.

I think though that its range of topics and general level of discussion is limited by its users, not the site itself, although the binary nature of so many group titles ("I Love / I Hate...." ) cannot help.
@ArishMell Management collected and selected those limited group headings from the old EP

Management seems to have a DIM view of our thinking abilities and it aggravates things, But there are worse aggravations in the world like why is everyone hurting so much?

Seems like a plan but who knows how to work it and make "it" better?
OMG I think I'm enabling the religious crowd again, hope NOT!

Take care all, make someone happy today! 🙂
Bubbles · 36-40, F
I understand where you are coming from. I myself am not sure what I believe. I was raised catholic but struggle with many religious concepts. I think the answer that religious people rely on is simply that they have faith. It may not make sense, but their faith is what helps them make sense. Even though it was written by man, they have faith that they wrote the truth.
Carazaa · F
@Bubbles I would never sacrifize my entire life unless I first had evidence what I follow is true!
Bubbles · 36-40, F
@Carazaa I'm happy for you then :)

The bible is an old sack

People are indoctrinated to believe it’s crap
SW-User
The bible claims to be inspired by God and most of the new testament writers claim to be wittness to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
You either believe or you don't, arguging the point is useless.
SW-User
@SW-User my mind is not wired to go on absolutes .I will always question everything
SW-User
@SW-User It's okay to question, shutting your mind off completely to the possibilty is a choice.
It's not really something to be talked into.
You search it out for yourself, you leave it alone, or whatever you chose to do with it.
That's why endless debates are so useless one person says yeah but and the other person returns with yeah but and it never ends.
SW-User
@SW-User I understand you
HurtMe · 51-55, M
About the bible, I discern what things are commented on from the society the writer was in when they wrote it. There is quite a few things I can't remember of it all right now, but yeah, take it with a grain of salt.
@HurtMe why is your name "Hurtme"?

Do you want to get hurt?

Or are you outing yourself about how hurt u have been?
HurtMe · 51-55, M
@Elevatorpitches It's more about how I used to be hurt alot, then about 2 years ago, I have not been so hurt. Thanks for making me think of that. I think I'll keep the name though.

jarvis919 · 26-30, M
are you convinced there is a God, but just not sure about the bible, or are you also wondering if there is a God?
SW-User
@jarvis919 just not sure about the bible
SW-User
You either have faith that it is the word of God or you don't. That's really all there is to it. Of course it was written by man, but those who believe it to be to the word of God believe that it was inspired by God, both in those who wrote it and those who chose which books to be included and which to exclude.

I think people fall into missing the forest for the trees when they get bogged down in taking every word of the Bible literally. Which is not even how the authors intended it all to be taken.
Sarabee · 41-45
The father has given you everything and still you dont understand correct
Satan has hedged you but you are still here humm
Could it be possible God shows you the littlest bit of magic daily and you dont notice because you are too entwined with your daily needs. ....

Nobody trusts the author of Bible in that manner I suppose. Something in their heart says 'this speaks to me'. Then there are those who follow the herd.
