In a somewhat similar fashion, I once helped a drunk friend of mine to walk home from a party, and that resulted in me having to listen to him for a good 4-5 hours and until he collapsed from tiredness, detailing his wedding plans with a (also drunk) girl he met a few hours earlier at the same party.

@MarmeeMarch Thank you. I feel cantankerous and contentious, mostly, (unlike a truly good person), because he is not happy with all of his miracles, and I wish he were. He is complaining because a Major League baseball first baseman has the same type of lung cancer he has, and he is out playing baseball again.
I tried to point out to my friend that he is not in his 30's anymore, he was NEVER in such excellent shape as a professional athlete, and he should not expect to be in such fine condition because his main occupation is watching television.
