@questionweaver Maybe people considering an abortion isn't mother material yet (or ever).
I used to think I was, cause I knew how to set rules without giving in to a child's begging. But I couldn't chose an unborns life "no matter what".
On one hand, why would I even think of it, I, who love to lose weight and feel the shock starvation-by-choice gives (no, I'm not in danger).
I hear what you're saying, but I'm swaying. About much lately.

I have yet to meet a flawless person and my physician never handed me a guarantee that my children would be born and live without any disorders of any kind. A basic understanding and acceptance of this should be present prior to any pregnancy.

If raised properly it is possible to lessen the chances, you can't only take into account nature. Nurture is equally important
Mercedes ... good question ... valuing life is not a rule, it is a value ... I value life more than money, fashion and convenience. There is more "there" there ... others balance life quality vs factors. Which trivializes life.
Remember .. burning building ... the fireman doesn't check first to see if the occupants passed 12th grade, speak English and their slacks are color coordinated.
If we don't understand the value of all life .. we could never appreciate a fireman.

All life is imperfect ... every life is valuable ... the gift of life is a treasure.

JustNik, you know all about having babies. Seriously what if the mother was completely free of any disease. They could have just aborted a perfectly healthy baby that got all the dominant genes from the healthy parent. This disgusts me

hopelessclare no how could you live with yourself aborting a child on the slim chance it may or may not have psychopathic disorder if there is a chance the child has surely the way it behaves can be monitored and the right course of treatment given
I just couldn't have an abortion
Go Nik

Mercedes: Thank you for saying I shouldn't have be allowed to be born
I have a son with autism, I would not give him up for the world.

@cherokeepatti I didn't see your mentioning til now, I could as well have included you in my last reply.
Well sorry if you take it like that, it's just different from what I meant. I know I'm insensitive a lot, but the truth is I care too much so I rather put up a fence and shut things off from my empathy. Maybe that's my real issue.

Are such disorders inherited?
If they're not, and a child MIGHT only inherit a slightly increased tendency to develop the disorder, then there's no reason to go against what you believe. Assuming that sex was consensual of course - if the person raped you, or hurt you against your will in any way, then maybe you'd never be able to bring the child up anyway, so you'd need to either have it adopted, or abort it.
Don't forget that most people are truly shocked to find that their offspring has such a condition - it certainly can't run in such families to the extent that they could have assumed their child would have it!
And above all, remember that even the most perfect couple in the world, with pristine and sanctified family medical histories, can STILL have a child with a major defect.

you are basing killing a child on "mights" and "perhapses." that is never right imo. you have every right to abort, i am not a birther, but you asked and that's my answer. there is as strong a likel yhood that the baby will be fine

I've never understood how people can value "every life" as something to save no matter what. Maybe I'm a pessimist, or maybe there's something I should learn.
Hi Mercedes ... tough life choices should be discussed and reflected upon ... compliments that you are doing that.

both my parents had problems, I wouldn't be alive if that was the rule
