What should a presidential debate sound like?

[media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYP8-oxq8ig]
Note how well spoken, polite, and knowledgeable Kennedy and Nixon are. Especially Kennedy. Now compare this to Trump vs. Biden.

It was a different era then, if they had acted like Biden and Trump recently did, the People would have been horrified and turned off their TV's in disgust. Everyone was more polite and civilized then. That didn't last for much longer...

Perhaps they should do that now. I think I heard that viewing figures for these things are much lower than they used to be.

@Frank52 It's no wonder, i watched it but it was a complete joke, the actions and words of both men were abhorrent, neither of them would make me want to vote for them. Neither man showed any respect for the voters who maybe wanted to hear about their policies and what they're going to do to improve the People's lives. This was more like a freak reality show between 2 inbred neighbours fighting over a fencepost. They should BOTH be ashamed of themselves.

Properly done with a neutral moderator where no one is interrupting the other. Don't forget it was Biden and Wallace that were the first to interrupt and Wallace refused to call Biden on his fabrications and even joined in on perpetuating them. Let's call a spade a spade. The biggest problem is the moderator is biased.

@hippyjoe1955 I don't disagree but part of the problem is the iniquities between the rich and the poor, the divide is too wide and that creates problems. Don't expect the poor to do your dirty work just because you can afford it and then tell them to like it too. There has to be a better way. So based on your comments you don't want any Government, no roads, no bridges, no hospitals, or schools, no controls over pollution, or crime? Because that's what our taxes go to pay for or they should be. You can't have it both ways, it's just not possible. The top 1% of the wealthy hold 95% of the wealth and they sure as shit don't want to share it with the rest of us...

@spjennifer The fact is that rich and poor is a false flag. There is no way to 'fix' it and every time we try to we just make it worse. The best way to help the poor is to give them opportunity to become rich. The funny thing is that the rich poor gap grew under Obama and has shrunk under Trump. Here in Canada we observe the same thing. So called conservative governments have a much better success rate at shrinking the rich poor gap than do the socialist governments. That is provable with quick study of statistics.

@spjennifer You may or may not know that I run a small non profit that is aimed at helping the homeless get back on their feet and get their addictions under control. I have had a bit of success with some of the people I have worked with. However we have a socialist government in Canada at the moment and try as I might I just can't find work for my people. There are a couple of large homeless camps because people can't find work and have lost their housing. The shelters are overflowing so we have set up tents for them to live in. Not sure how that is going to work come winter time when it is 40 below. However our Obama like PM doesn't seem to care. He has to stop CO2 from killing us all.

I really couldn't give fewer fucks how it sounds as long as it retains a focus on policy substance and if applicable, corruption.

With today’s classless slandering libs ... who knows
LucyGray · 26-30, F
@TexChik If you stop watching Fox news you might learn something. He had a long history of swindling people before he entered the race. Everything from bilking contractors to Trump University. He'll soon be facing charges of tax fraud and bank fraud, too.

@LucyGray libs never run out of bullshit and “facts” that are never true ... 🙄
Frank52 · 70-79, M
Perhaps they had enough respect for the electorate to at least appear to be able to address the issues.
curiosi · 61-69, F
That all flew out the window when the narcissist Obama ran.
LucyGray · 26-30, F
@curiosi Narcissism makes me think of Trump, not Obama.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@LucyGray Obama is a clinical narcissist. Trump has a big ego. The two are not the same. Obama fell in love with the idea of being president but really had little to contribute to the conversation when he got there. All his policies were given to him by someone else. The same is not true of Trump whose ideas are in large part his own.

I adore people who are well spoken and articulate. I voted for Obama for that reason... was VERY smooth. Unfortunately Slick Politicians, who are calm, and smooth, and who seem VERY plausible...seldom are.

John F. Kennedy was part of the Congressional Team, along with Joe Biden, who invented the term, "Borking" between them. We are suffering from that vicious legacy still.
LucyGray · 26-30, F
@4meAndyou I'll have to look up borking. I know about the other ruse using crime figures.
smiler2012 · 56-60
lucygray open honest and answer questions with no fudging or personal attacks but this is politics so no chance of ever happening

@JAYS21 I would love to see a more formal debate and not just a yelling match but I also realize that nobody would tune in to watch Trump eviscerate demented Joe. It just would not be fair.
