If you retire tomorrow, how many years can survive with your savings?

Consider inflation
JeanAnna · F
As long as I live.

That's so difficult to work out. Having been through this decision a couple of years ago. My wife is also about to early retire and we're working out she should be comfortably OK until she gets her state pension in 10 years time.
money isn't in the consideration. can he give up doing what he loves
@SimplyLogicalDiscipline my husband. would love to have him around full time
@saragoodtimes are you sure, full-time 😝
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
2 years or so on money in the bank 10 years if I cashed in my 401ks
@FreeSpirit1 ✌️
"Money"??? "Savings"??? What are those??? 🤔
InterstellarButterfly · 26-30, F
Are we talking money or vodka?
Yulianna · 22-25, F
more than i could possibly hope to live...
SW-User
Not long at all.
If I sold my house though I'd be quite well off
SW-User
@SimplyLogicalDiscipline Bigger house for less money.

@SW-User in the road my son lives in his 1 bed flat would be probably £400k. There's a two bed maisonette just up the road at £650k and the other end a three bed semi (smaller than my current 4 bed that I'd probably market at £375k) that's just gone for £1.1m

If I retire, I'll probably borrow money from my father, some relatives and friends and create a family fund that I will run until the age of 80 or death (whichever is earlier)

My targeted return would be around 30% p.a. over the life of the fund
@Nomad7 creating a family fund is a very nice idea, never thought about it 👏
morrgin · F
About a week
@morrgin hmm
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
About ten years.
Government has screwed the pension system since i started work so for all my contributions the cost of living has made them worth about half what they should be.
@Picklebobble2 The government 😡
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@SimplyLogicalDiscipline Every muthaf➖ one of them since i started work in 1980 !🤬
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Pretty much forever because I have a reasonable pension. But if I had retired before I was able to draw on my pension I would have been able to survive for about ten years without a too drastic reduction in living standard.

Working on average UK male life expectancy is 79.2 years I'm OK and then some. However if I get into my 80s and need a care home I've limited time in them. We were paying £143 a day for my mother in law last year
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
I retired 4 years ago, and my wife is retiring next week. We have enough to see us through many years, and will be getting income from our pensions, social security and retirement accounts.
@DragonFruit dragon ✌️
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Two or three years, if I don't have any health problems. Then I will be blind and homeless.
@hunkalove desk job,work from home?
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@SimplyLogicalDiscipline I'm going blind. And I've never had a desk job in my entire life. I worked in restaurants and retail. No one is going to hire me to do anything important.
@hunkalove I am sorry
I have to move to a smaller house with cheaper rent, than I can live for 2 to 3 years without working, if there are no medical expenses for my parents and myself.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I don't smoke, drink, date, have kids or a car. And am quite comfortable in a tent So my expenses are minimal. So a little while I guess.
@Thevy29 minimalism is always better
SW-User
It really depends on the lifestyle I want to live.
@SW-User so what kind of lifestyle is your favourite 🧐
SW-User
@SimplyLogicalDiscipline I would still want to travel and have a nice place.

That stuff is too hard to calculate. It only takes one major health issue to screw things up too.
@SW-User true, do give special attention to health
I already retired with a pension that adjust to inflation. So, I’m kind of set...I hope.
@KrackerBash already retired, lucky you 😁
Nomad7 · 22-25, M

@Londonn Yes you are right 😁
This is getting close to my reality .. I'm good for longer than I'm likely to live
The day I retire my hearse will be double parked out front.
