Treat people the way you want to be treated (or would want to be treated if you were in their shoes).

Do I always follow this? No. But do I believe in it as a fundamental ideal? Yes.

everyone says that. But they exclude their kids from that along with other groups of people

I.E. the Golden Rule.
Tython · 31-35, M
Treat people with respect until they prove unworthy of it.
MiserableAtBest · 18-21, F
I treat people kindly and with respect, unless they prove that I shouldn’t
Jill1990 · 31-35, F
Yes, if everyone could do that, the world would be a better place to live.

I always treat ppl with respect and understanding but all I get is being mistreated like a trash in return

@Nanori @Tython @MiserableAtBest And I like to think I am principled enough that I wouldn't want people to prop me up with endless respect if I am hurting them. I don't want to hurt people, and I don't want to be given respect for doing so, knowingly or not.

I always found that rule so silly. The way you want to be treated applies to you and no one else.

@bijouxbroussard Assuming is a very dangerous thing to do with people.
johnlovesspinachpies · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard and they don't? who doesn't like to be treated well?
@johnlovesspinachpies Who indeed ? So why doesn’t it make sense to treat others well, if this is what most people want for themselves ? Reject said the rule was "silly". I was curious why.

Respect is a two way street.
