Should I keep or cancel my orthopedic doctor appointmnent?

Chronic pain for 14 yrs.
Chiropractor and PT helped very little.
After visiting many quacks, I made an ortho appt on last month.
Ortho appointment is next week.

A few weeks ago, I was referred to an "alternative" type of therapy where they do myofascial release of the tendons and muscles etc that are supposed to be the root cause of the pain.

I'm conflicted as to whether I should only do the alternative therapy I'm doing or go ahead and go to ortho too.

Also, I do not believe the ortho will do anything to help me. It seems traditional doctors/medicine do very little, and that alternative medicine/doctors seems like they really want to heal you.

My insurance covers 6 visits with the alternative therapy. I told the therapist lady that I'd see her monthly. She said they do things differently- they see patients twice a week, and by the 6th visit, your pain will be gone-guaranteed. Her words...

So if she's committed to helping heal me, I definitely want to continue, at least until my 6 visits are up...

Do you think I should also go to the ortho?

Yes...just on the off chance that there is something he or she can do to help. When you are going to a doctor or therapist for chronic pain, you have to check off the boxes for your insurance company.

You go, realizing that if the orthopedic doctor can't help you, there is a remote chance that he or she might recommend more of the alternative therapy. It's not likely...but if he or she recommends more of the alternative therapy, then your insurance might cover more of it.

Have you tried CBD oil? I've had a few patient that have chronic pain benefit from it.

@Sunnykel76 i need to be healed, not just put a "bandaid" on it

I didn't know stecco was alternative medicine. 🤔 I'd go to ortho after, if it doesn't work.

@Mordi oh ok. I go to an "alternative" chiropractor...goal is to get to the route cause, not just crack and pops

I'm pretty sure there are doctors who perform the fascial manipulation too.

@Mordi Im sure there are. I haven't met one. The alt chiro I'm going to seems to be doing more than most doctors I've been too

I used a chiropractor for physical therapy on my back because all the doctor wanted to do was prescribe pain pills and muscle relaxers.

@cherokeepatti yea this is an "alternative' chiro. I think I may just go to the ortho appt, just to be able to say "well I tried an ortho". Gonna look into naturopaths in my area and hope that I don't need a referral from my PCP. They are slow about getting referrals out.

@nadine it's ok. just frustrated. doctors should help people, not just prescribe medicine. But as I read, and as others here have suggested, my next move is alternative medicine, naturopathic doctors etc..I want to get to the root cause of the problem.
