I Can't Sleep When I Have Too Much On My Mind

It's pretty often that I have trouble falling asleep. For some reason, I get distracted by the feeling of my heartbeat throughout my body, and it just keeps me up. I don't know why my mind focuses so much on that feeling. I have to go to bed 10 hours before the time I need to be up since it can take an hour or two just for me to fall asleep.

Slow sleep insomnia, try wearing your brain out with complex thought.

Some say flashing as many images in your mind as possible almost like looking at a picture flip book filled with random images. Others would say difficult math problems.

I'll try that tonight and see if it helps me

It'll still take a while but it's better than nothing.

Does your heart beat fast or heavy?

@hiddenkitty: You should try a breathing exercise before bed.

@Carver: Okay. Sometimes I consciously force myself to take deep breaths, but I'll try to look up some breathing exercises.

@hiddenkitty: I have one that helps me with my anxiety:

Be seated, sitting up straight with both feet planted flat on the floor, inhale through your nose for three seconds, exhale through your mouth for five seconds. Repeat three times or as many times as you need to settle yourself down.
