I Hate Body Shaming

This is a classic example of body-shaming that happens around in our society. Fat shaming, skinny shaming and all kinds of shaming should not be tolerated. Unfortunately as a result of society's narrow beauty standards, these types of shaming are normalized, allowing people to make derogatory remarks.
This post shows how body-shaming still occurs, and it needs to stop.
Why do people feel the need to use such degrading remarks? It's absolutely appalling how people feel the need to shame others - people cannot control the way their body functions and it is not hard to have an open mind!

To anybody who struggle with self love.
To anybody who struggle with their bodies.
To anybody who has been body shamed.

You are beautiful the way you are, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

@SW-User This comment is everything! It's like we have to fit in to a specific mold to get accepted by the society. The stereotypes are just pure ignorance. They are not a doctor - they don't know the way our body functions.

Keep doing you x

I have to agree but on the other hand I don't think that the cult of fat acceptence is good too. When a person who is morbidly obese and it's visible that he/she has physical issues and is doing nothing about it. It's not okay in my opinion for him/her to skinny shame others. If the person is fat but healthy and living good life without being restricted... nothing wrong with that.
I noticed lately that many people like this are getting louder and louder in this matter. It makes me worried and always reminds me of scene from Wall-I when the people were just on those chairs doing nothing...

@JaneSerenity As I have previously replied to another person, there are other alternative ways to address health issues without affecting the person's self-esteem. Body shaming is not the answer, and should never be tolerated. If someone is genuinely worried about your physical issues, they will find a way to help you.

@SW-User Of course I just pointed out one aspect from many. As I said body-shaming never did something good for anyone. I am for encouraging a healthy lifestyle and that starts with healthy mind.

If people are body shaming because just they look bad, it is not okay.

but if it's affecting their health and will cause them to die earlier and stuff, it needs to be addressed. although body shaming is not the best way to do it... a lot IK do it cause it worries them.

@Ecarlate I agree with your first point. However, there are other alternative ways to address health issues without affecting the person's self-esteem. There are better ways to address the issue. Body shaming should never be tolerated. Period.

What if I tell myself otherwise? :(

@SW-User As corny as it sounds, it has a point. Think about it this way - your looks will gradually fade as you get older. Looks are temporary. Would you want to be with someone who loves your appearance that's going to fade in ten, twenty years time? Bear in mind that they are going to lose interest in your looks within that period of time. Or would you rather be with someone who loves you for who you are, and will stick by you every last drop of minute?
SW-User
@SW-User Of course the latter. But my looks can hardly be considered attractive now, let alone in the future. And since I'm not physically attractive, nobody gives me enough of a chance to actually get to know me.
SW-User
Well then that's their problem - they are just shallow. You don't need people like that in your life.

Did you feel ashamed by Melissa? I'm skinny and I get teased but I don't feel shamed.
SW-User
@MayaFromCalifornia I don't feel ashamed at all! I'm perfectly fine with the way I am :). This post is just to point out how body shaming still exists and that nobody should have to tolerate such ignorance.
MayaFromCalifornia · 18-21, F
@SW-User I agree.
