My poemes are not in English, should I share them and translate into English?

@soulsrespite Unfortunately it is a language spoken by a small number of people. And I was hoping to get some anonymous feedback first :). But, hell yeah, i will make a small experiment tonight, to see how it sounds in English. My English is far from perfect, so keep your fingers crossed that I do a decent job :)

@EugenieLaBorgia So you are also not a huge fan of great poets being translated? I read a bit of Jaques Prevert in both French and English, but they seemed great in both (well maybe it is just the greatness of Prevert, my poor little poems might not have that quality :)).

@sumojumo If I am interested in a poem, I will , at leat, make an attempt to study it in its original language. Obviously, it will present a great difficulty with some languages but poetry is one of the 'divine' languages and should be treated as such.

@EugenieLaBorgia Oh, that is just a magnificent reply. And kudos to you for making the effort of reaching out to other languages. You almost created a desire for me to go and study an exotic language, just to explore their poetic landscape - wow, thank you for this.

BTW, do you have any suggestions? Any great poet that I missed because of the language barriers?

@Sicarium Tnx, I will make a small experiment, to see how it goes. Not a word by word translation, just an attempt to capture the meaning. Yes, that sounds like good advice.

@revenant no, no, a misunderstanding. I do not have poems in French, but I did read some Prevert :).

@revenant I have a small collection of poems that are more about the story than about feelings. So maybe I start with those. The story-telling part is not that problematic, I guess. But the play of words is a bit problematic, well, I will think about it. Thank you for your feedback.

@sumojumo show to them who know that language ..i read shakespeare originals and translated ..the difference between the two is huge .i also read hindi novels by premchand and its english translation ..which is again completely different .when translated the feel is lost ..we relate to story or poems due to common linguistic cultural historical social background which is very less retained in translation ..moeover in poems tge rhyming pattern is lost .

@SW-User That is one of my fears, yes. As some of the comments said, maybe give it a try to write in English. So not a translation per se, but a new poem that tries to capture the essence of the original one.
