what's the best book you have read?

did it left you satisfied? wanting for more? what was the message?
HannahSky · F
There's a lot, but one I've never thrown out is The Chosen by Chaim Potok, another is The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran
HannahSky · F
@Dancingxghost it is in a way. It's not a cure, but it connects you to something.
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@HannahSky like trying to learn to love the world again even when most of me despise it
HannahSky · F
@Dancingxghost that's great. If you despise it, maybe it's because you really don't but feel upset about it and needing something

The Bible
I don't confess to be a born again son of God for nothing
It forever changed my life
But its more then a book to me
It is my sword ,and the bread that gave me life
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@rckt148 well I have god in my heart always but the words of man could never describe his magnificent presence to me at least
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@flashywords If you bury it in your heart
It can be a little bitter at first ,,until the holy spirit helps you to see ,then its like a new book ,it is the lamp unto our feet ,,the Holy Spirit the oil ..
And you see ,many verses don't say what some preachers say they say ,,,and not everyone saying they are ,are from the Lord ,,
But when we try EVERYTHING and EVERY SPIRIT ,,
with use ,,we soon can see holy from common ,clean from unclean ,,,and serpents that do a good impersonation of the Lord ,,,but as Christ said "Get thee behind me satan ,,for it is written ,man shall not live by bread alone ,
But by EVERY WORD that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord "
It can change your life ,,
I thank my friend for a pocket testament ,I wore that one out ,,and many Bibles since

@Dancingxghost
Not to judge anyones walk ,,but I do know what the Master said .."Obedience is better then sacrifice ,,did He not say to study to show thyself approved ? and tell us exactly how to do that ,,so that on that day ,,we are not ashamed .
following the wrong one

Without His word ,,how do you try the spirit ?
Satan tried his wiles on the Messiah himself ,,
How did he overcome Him ?
He is the Word ,,who has come in many forms

John 1:1 King James Version (KJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Anyone who says I know Him but shuns His word
I fear they are members of the Lord Lord Church
When more is known ,,more is required ,,
The last day Church will face a test like no other church in history ,,and how well we know his Word ,,will save the very elect but not just the word ,we need a relationship also with ts author AKA the Holy Spirit
Psalm 119:11 King James Version (KJV)
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Psalm 119:105 King James Version (KJV)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Remember the narrow road few find ?
They forgot to use the lamp and was led astray

The best book I've ever read is a hard one to pick, but I think it would probably be The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick I can relate to that but the that is always close to my heart is der Steppenwolf by herman hesse the inability to connect to people even when you want to
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Dancingxghost Hesse. I haven't read him in a very long time.
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick I always re read it because its more than good it feels like reflection of me written on paper
flashywords · 36-40, F
"The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison opened my eyes.
"Maniac Magee" by Jerry Spinelli is my favorite book. I read it as a kid and I love it.
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@flashywords are these books recent or old novels?
flashywords · 36-40, F
@Dancingxghost ... "The Bluest Eye" is from 1970.
And "Maniac Magee" is 1990.
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@flashywords is gonna be hard to find them around because I prefer paper over digital books
Coralmist · 41-45, F

The Count Of Monte Cristo - by Alexandre Dumas
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@MarmeeMarch yeah great book but in all honesty I just saw the movie
@Dancingxghost I seen the movie - the one with Tony Curtis and honestly these movies that are 90 minuts long cant hold a candle to a novel that has been carefully told detail by detail
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@MarmeeMarch of course not your imagination is way more powerful to recreate everything than a motion picture will ever do
Keraunos · 36-40, M
Across the full spectrum of my moods, the book that would probably win this contest the most is Spengler's The Decline of the West: A Morphology of World-History.
Keraunos · 36-40, M
@Dancingxghost …Wut?
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@Keraunos my reply got cut off I was trying to say I'm glad The kinds of books you're interested of are more depth that a simple novel but what was the message overall?
Keraunos · 36-40, M
@Dancingxghost That is not the easiest question to answer, at least not in anyway that would actually give meaningful insights into the book. In my view, the book itself at some 1000 pages is a highly condensed abstract of its own "message", which virtually 100% of people who actually read it seem not to have understood well at all, and which basically requires a doctorate-level knowledge of history to follow, and a decent education in mathematics and philosophy besides.

This probably isn't a very useful answer, but it's a work in comparative history and philosophy of history making a case that civilizations follow very broadly similar and predictable trajectories in all of their aspects over long periods of time.
