I have one of those "negative validation" ownership groups. The fact that they don't have any reason to be "disappointed" or need to "discuss" things with me is supposed to be my validation.

Quite honestly, I don't worry. The customers and my department's staff are my validation. The corporation's HQ knows me well. They validate me to my owners.

Also, when you're in charge of someone's company, all the owners have to do is look on Google or Yelp to get a big picture view of their customers' perceptions. Ultimately, that's who we're all responsible to in order to truly be deemed successful.

Earn the #1 rating in customer satisfaction in your market and the money will flow. It's always the best short term and long term play. It's a mission statement and marketing plan all wrapped into one neat little package.

This is a very logical approach.

It's good to hear, but not a necessity for me. I see the end result and compare it with where I began with and judge it for myself.

Excellent strategy. I should try it.

With favorism, corruption, lies and dishonesty in today's world, I no longer look for validation. Some never appreciate and some don't mean what they say, so I judge myself. My satisfaction matters the most to me. @Madeleine:

I don't need 3rd party validation to feel good about my work, because I take great pride in my work and regard it as a reflection of myself.

However, it makes it a lot easier for me to feel good about my employer when they sincerely recognize the good and reliable work I do for them.

I like your self-confidence, and it's true, what we do is a reflection of ourselves. I just learned something new from you. Thank you.

I don't usually.. I have a good self confidence about my work... however, sometimes a little appreciation makes you feel better about everything
