Does grief ever lessen? Can one feel so much grief that they cant escape?

sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
I don't know.

mine's growing worse. lost my wife last year to cancer and soo sick and tired of those who don't get it preaching me how it is.

doesn't help and I can't help but feel the pain.

I guess we have our own way, ability and time,

just let it flow naturally, don't force it.

It does, but don't rush it. My uncle was killed 11 years ago today and I still think of him but I stopped being sad/angry... Took me a few years.

Yeah, it can happen. But I heard someone say once that if you can turn grief into mourning, then that's progress. Maybe it's not about escaping, but accepting.

Never really goes away, but gets easier to face over time. 😕

@MougyWolf I lost my mum as a kid and that was tough. I mean in some ways I have never gotten over it but also I have got on with my life. This time I feel like it might break me.

@BreathingFreshAir I'm so sorry for your loss. Hang in there.

In my case, I've lost a couple really good friends to the reaper. And it hurts. Yeah, I've gotten on with my life, but sometimes the memories resurface, and there is nothing I can do, but cry. It's been years ago, but sometimes I still cry.

Grief is a wound we carry with us all our lives.
Sometimes it scars over, sometimes it remains open, and bleeding.
Either way, we still feel the pain, we just get better at living with it over time.

I used to say that my heart was broken so many times I was surprised it was still beating.
I think it can become something that is in the background, it's there, but you learn to keep living.

It feel like you cant escape. The pain eases over time but Im not sure it ever disappears.
It does become easier to cope over time.
